I'm currently a first year at my local community college in Pasadena. I just want to know what you guys think it takes to transfer to schools such as UCB, Stanford, Princeton, and MIT. I'm a Computer Science and Engineering/Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences major. I still have quite a long ways to go before I'm ready to transfer (maybe about 4 years) due to the fact that I'd like to complete all my lower division requirements for UCs and I'm starting off near the bottom. I didn't graduate from high school, but instead entered community college with a CHSPE. By the end of this semester, I'll have a 4.0 with 22 transferable units completed (most are random GE classes because I couldn't get the classes I need) and I'm planning to keep my GPA above 3.5. 3.5 being the worst case scenario. I'm also participating in the school's Engineering Club, planning to join the Physics Club, and also Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society. So what does it take? Should I do more ECs, if so, what kind? What about SAT and SAT II? What should my final GPA look like to be looking at these schools? And whatever else you can think of. Like I said, I still have a while before I plan to transfer, but it never hurts to know this stuff beforehand right?

P does not accept transfer students.

For the UCs, please post on the UC Transfer subforum for the best information.

For schools like S & MIT, you need to have a gpa substantially above 3.5. It’s not how many ECs you do, but what you do with them (eg. leadership, impact, etc.). Check school websites for information on testing requirements for transfer applicants. There is nothing that can assure acceptance given the extremely low number of spots available.

Alright, thanks for the speedy response. I’m sure I could have found what I needed with a quick forum search, but I didn’t think of that sooner. I guess I’ll do my research first before I post again.
