i don't understand this... like the whole URM thing....

An Under Represented Minority is an ethnicity that is present in low amounts (often relative to national representation) in a University. For example, if blacks represent 9% of the student body in a school, but they represent 13% of the nation, they are URM at that specific university. URM can apply to any race, but it depends on what college. For example, I hear that Asians are URM's at Notre Dame.

oh, so is it only people who are 100% or what about 50, or 25%?

Well just be as honest as possible. Are you 25% black and 75% white, but you identify yourself traditionally as white? Better yet, you can always check off multiple races or "mixed". Just be honest, don't check off minority just for the status, it could lead to some awkward considerations after someone interviews you.

It doesn't matter if you look like a minority--they have a set cut-off for percentage minority. If you are only 1/8 hispanic or native american, there's no way someone could tell looking at you anyway. Just ask the school what the cut-off is.

^Point taken, that's better advice.
