I am thinking about going to SMC for nursing, and would not just want to stay on SMC’s campus ALL of the time so will hanging out at ND & meeting some ND students be looked down upon or considered really weird? And what is there for SMC girls at ND?
I’m a junior at ND, and I can honestly say that most ND students really like SMC girls and are very welcoming to non-ND students in general. Nobody will think it’s weird if you hang out on campus, tons of Smicks do that! As far as things to do, you can: go to football games, join clubs, write for the newspaper, go to Mass or a retreat, go to dorm parties, go to a a play or concert in the DPAC, and lots of other stuff!
Awesome thanks! I’m also considering ND! I have some friends at ND that will be juniors & seniors this year! Isn’t there club sports or something like that that SMC can do along with ND? @spencerg011
There’s some drama first semester freshman year that’s similar to high school, but people seem to grow out of that by second semester. Also, to answer your other question, SMC students can join club sports, there’s some stuff here:
http://recsports.nd.edu/club-sports/policies-procedures/#Tier%20System
Saint Mary’s and Holy Cross students are eligible for club sports dependent upon club constitutions and playing affiliation’s (conference, national associations, etc) rules. They are not eligible for the Bengal Bouts or Baraka Bouts programs, or the Men’s or Women’s Boxing Clubs.
All clubs except men’s and women’s boxing, and men’s volleyball are open to St. Mary’s and Holy Cross students. St. Mary’s and Holy Cross students are encouraged to join any of the other club sports.
People generally don’t care where you go - there is usually hardship between ND and Holy Cross for sure. My twin is going to SMC next year, and I am going to ND. Domerfest (or Welcome Week) is shared in parts between the two colleges, and some classes criss-cross depending upon majors. It’s maybe a 15-20 minute walk between the two campuses, so it’s not that hard to visit ND and any of the facilities. If you have any questions feel free to PM me!
I am thinking about attending both schools, but just wondering incase I do I fact decide to go to SMC because I wouldn’t want ALL girls all of the time so do ND boys like hanging out with SMC girls or do they not care what school they go to? & how do SMC girls meet ND people?
I have a sister who graduated from ND a few years ago. She had an old friend who went to SMC, and they would meet and catch up every once in a while, the latter often bringing a few friends from SMC. From her experience, there is apparently a (small?) population of St. Mary students who view those at ND as snobby, rich, “goody-goody” people, and make it a point to make it known that they attend a different school, as if they have something to prove to ND students. So, all I can really say is to treat each person as a person, and to not care which school they are attending. You’re all in South Bend for the same reasons: education, faith development, friendship, and finding yourself in this world.
