What does no enrollment deposit mean?

I am admitted to Duke and I find that Duke requires no enrollment deposit. I'm currently waitlisted by a university which ranks higher than Duke in my mind. But Duke is currently my best result and likely be the best on Apr 30. So I will enroll at Duke most possibly. However, if I am admitted off the waitlist by that university, does declining Duke after confirming enrollment mean no money loss to me, because Duke doesn't require a deposit? Also, if I have already paid the full tuition by that time, will I get full refund?
Thank you.

If you enroll at Duke and then get taken off the waitlist somewhere else and enroll there, then it won’t cost you anything. Not sure about tuition but why would you pay tuition in full before you’re sure that you are going?

^Thank you. I don’t know but I think waitlist admission comes long after May 1 and I suspect that I will be pressed by Duke to pay at least part of tuition by some time.

If I remember correctly they ask you to pay by some time in July I think so you should be ok. Just don’t pay unless you have to.

Out of curiosity, which school do you prefer to Duke?

I think there’s some sort of protection plan where if you withdraw before a certain deadline (usually after the fall semester starts), they will refund what you’ve paid. You can probably couple that to the installment plan so that you don’t have to go in for the lump sum right away. Both are relatively inexpensive I think.
