What does one do if I he/she is not accepted anywhere???

My life seems to be running towards this particular situation. I have already taken off 3 years and this year I seem to be getting only rejection letters and all from my safety colleges too. I know that my high financial need is the reason for all these rejections too, but I can't certainly do anything about that. Has anyone been in such a situation, where they did not get into any college? What did you do about it?

From your saying you have taken off 3 years, I assume you are no longer in HS and do not have a guidance counselor. I dont know if you could go back and speak to one at your old school. Do you still live at home? Are your parents willing to let you live at home? If yes, look at a community college or state school that you could live at home. Then after a year or so, you can look at transferring. This may be the best alternative after having been out of school for 3 years.

I am an international actually and I did speak with my GC from my old school. He was very supportive during admissions this year. I have to say even state schools are very expensive for me. I am looking at schools in my own country.

In early May, check the NACAC website for a list of colleges with space and financial aid available.

1) "I know that my high financial need is the reason for all these rejections too, but I can't certainly do anything about that."

2) "I am an international"

3) "I am looking at schools in my own country."

You already have your solution. Start thinking about which of your options in your own country will offer you the best opportunity to grow and prosper. Do not for one minute let anyone tell you that you are not a full human being just because you can't afford to study in the USA.

Wishing you all the best.

I do know that its one solution. I am however thinking of all the money that I spent and everything.

Happymom has the solution. Do well in your country's university, and consider a graduate school program in the US. If you are highly qualified, you may be able to be a paid TA (teaching assistant) to subsidize your tuition.

yeah! Thanks guys :)

I am in a similar situation as you are in. I have taken 2 gap years too, and I think I am heading for all rejections this year. I've put in a lot of effort and my family members were/are very supportive of my doing everything to get into a very good college in the U.S., but it seems my need is just way too much. (Some colleges can't afford me even though they want to, lol.)

Well, all I can say is that even if I don't get admitted to one of my favorite colleges, I can still take away many positive things and experiences from this admission cycle. My writing skills have improved a great deal, I am sure, and I have matured a lot also. If it doesn't work out, I am going to start college in my native country from May. I will give my best and perhaps try again for my masters in four years. It is much more easier to get into a masters program with financial aid, I have heard. I know it must be very disappointing to you, Neethu, if you are not admitted anywhere, but I would advise you to take the positives out of it and not think too much about what could have happened or how much money has been spent.

I know I am still the person I was few months ago; no rejection can make me a less important human being in my eyes. Sure, opportunities and, perhaps, luck has not come my way, but I believe I have the capability to build a bright future for myself. And I am sure so are you too! So, best of luck, my friend. I earnestly hope you get in somewhere this time, though. :)

By the way, many international students get all rejections and eventually start college in their native countries. They do fine, I am sure.

^
Thank you sooo much. What you've said is perfectly true :) I have learnt a lot during this admissions cycle. I just have to be strong enough to move on :) Thank you very much BB :) Good luck to you :) I hope you get the best in life :)

honey you going to need to go to LCCC or last chance community college!

I am sure I wouldn't be doing that being an international :)

Although I am not really in the same situation, this is my worst nightmare. I am applying almost exclusively to what I would consider match (American, Boston) and safety (Virginia Commonwealth) schools, but I have this nagging feeling I'll get rejected everywhere.

P.S. - I'm a junior.

P.P.S. - Apply to more safety schools...

@ Neethu
You are welcome!

there's always Wal-Mart or McDonalds drive through jobs avilable :)

Hm... Applying as an international student is super hard! but whats worse is getting financial aid. I actually lived in US for half of my life... and is at the very very last step to getting a green card... but I DON'T have it!!! which means... no need based financial aid for me! which pretty much sucks... I can't even think about applying in my country... I'm from China! For one thing, I would be very very very behind if I go back... the other thing is, I wont be able to get into any of the colleges there! ANYWAYS! sorry about the rambling. There MUST be some colleges in the US that will accept you. There might not be much financial aid though.
