On the Vassar website the page with statistics for the class of 2012 states that the mean "recomputed" high school grade point average is A-. What exactly is meant by "recomputed?" Is this to take into account honors/AP classes?

i think its ur unweighted gpa using only academic classes.

The recomputed GPA differs from school to school. They usually take out courses like "Food Prep" and compute GPA with the remaining courses taking the level of difficulty (AP, honors) into consideration.

Thank you for your replies.

It never crossed my mind that any school would count the non-academic classes (as in the "food prep" you mentioned. I was really trying to find out if in "recomputing" they give honors and AP extra weight. So, I think you answered my question...but now I am wondering how much extra weight the honors and APs receive. Any ideas?

I wonder, though, about the arts classes. While concert band isn't exactly an "academic class" I would certainly not put it on the same plane as Food Prep as an easy A type of class.
