Explain Unweighted GPA please!

hey guys

im not stupid or anything, but my high school isn't excalty the best high school in the world and everything i know about colleges require me to do my own research.
so
can someone explain to me what Unweighted GPA means?
and give and example too.

thanks in advance

Unweighted GPA is based solely on what grades you earn in your classes.

Weighted GPA is based on the grades you earn in your classes with extra points added based on difficulty of the classes (ie, points added for honors/advanced/AP/IB classes)

The way it's calculated varies from school to school too.

so would a 98 be differnet than a 92 or the like?
and how would colleges want your GPA reported?

Not sure of that way (with the 92 and 98), but usually the class point maximum for unweighted if 4. Therefore, an A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, etc.

The difference with weighted is that this time, honors and AP courses are +1 higher. Therefore, an A = 5, B = 4, C = 3 ( and I think a D and F don't get any credit? Correct me if I'm wrong).
