You indicated you are a United States permanent resident in your application,
but we do not have a copy of your Green Card. Please email a scanned copy to

Thank you for your prompt attention.

Director of Admissions

So, will the decision be made based on my son's legal status?? Did anyone receive this kind of email from Caltech?

International students and US students are treated differently in the admissions process at Caltech (and at virtually every other school). If your son indicated he was a permanent resident if he actually was not, that could be a pretty serious issue. If he is actually a permanent resident, just send the card already.

Thanks. My son is permanent resident. He sent a scanned file of green card to the admission office right after receiving the email and then received another confirmation email from the office within several minutes. I am just curious what this situation means…Is this a “good sign” or just a “process”?

Thanks, TippuSultan. Don’t worry, aznjunior. I guess that the school wanted to check my son’s legal status since he applied for financial aid which will be almost a full ride based on my single income.

I wouldn’t read too far into it. As lizzardfire said, it can be a serious issue if the citizen/residency status is incorrect so they want to make sure that the paperwork’s in order.
