Today, I got calls from Ohio State University and University of Maryland, College Park.

Ohio State doesn't post it's decisions online, but on the application status page it said decision made on Feb. 15. I don't know why UMCP would call.

Would they be calling to tell me about their decision?

and they do what? Who cares what the student says over the phone........I mean they aren't going to offer you admission nor are they going to bind you to a contract.

Yield activities are those that are meant to reel students in. Students, administrators and faculty call students to see if they have questions. It's a way for kids to feel like the college really wants them and for some big schools, it might be a way to show a student that they won't be a number.

At a time when students are sending out more and more applications, colleges are feeling the need to do more when it comes to yield.
