Sorry to bring up an old topic but figured it'd be nice to see what people in USC c/o 2013 have to say....

I randomly checked my USC status today and it said 'completed preliminary review' (updated 1/05) and that they might ask for my Midyear grades. I submitted my app by Dec 1st. I haven't received anything requesting my midyear grades so should I send them in myself?
I am hesitant about sending in my grades without their request because I didn't get all A's last semester, so it could hurt me. (got 4 A's and 3 B's w/ 4.14 GPA) What should I do? Wait for them to request my grades, or risk sending in my mid year grade report to find out my acceptance earlier?

Is it bad that I haven't gotten a request for my grades?

First of all, I have the same message as you and not everyone has finished their first semester yet. This is the last week for my school and then grades don't come out til end of Jan.

Also I'm in the same boat. I got a couple Bs this semester (senioritis sucks) and what I'm doing is not doing anything until 1) my grades come out 2) if and only if they request it from me.

Hope that helps

Why wouldn't they request/ask for senior grades for some people (as stated on the page)?

I remember my brother found out about USC in late January so I guess if they want your senior grades, that means you won't find out until Feb/March cause some schools don't get their final grades till end of Jan...

If you get the acceptance in the earliest waves, they do not ask for your midyear grades. Pretty much everyone else will get a request to submit the midyear grades. Then, all admits will have to submit their end-of-year grades, so don't slack off too much. ;)

My daughter had a really good junior year but she slacked off her senior year due to several commitments with her main EC or passion. She was accepted early in Jan therefore she did not have to send in her Senior year grades. If you have a very good junior year(GPA-wise) then don't worry about a few Bs in Senior year.

Is it a sign that I won't find out about my acceptance in Jan/Feb if my status was only updated Jan 5th with 'completed preliminary review'? Just interesting it as updated so late when I turned my app in late November.

The only way that you will find out about acceptance in late January is if you submitted before the Financial Aid Deadline, AND if you are being considered for a merit scholarship. If you find out late January, in all likelihood you will receive a financial aid packet a few days later.

No one knows how many applications are being read which may also impact the time frame.

What kind of applicant do I have to be, in order to be accepted in early January?

cboy, last year the fin aid offers didn't go out until late March - even for those accepted in January. Those invited for scholarship interviews don't find out if they actually got the scholarship until late March as well.

KoreanGurl, you can look at this thread for a sampling of those invited for scholarship interviews: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/454785-stats-only-usc-official-decisions-fall-2008-a.html?highlight=2008+decisions . Most of those accepted in late Jan and early Feb were invited for scholarship interviews.

Good luck!

Hmm, mine changed to "completed preliminary review" on 12/10, but I think I submitted it on 11/30 or 12/1, i can't remember. Maybe we should make our own "what's your status" thread, instead of posting on this 1,000 post thread.... LOL. and try to figure out the status trends... again!!
