Since the old thread was now over a year old and 1000+ posts to sift through, I decided to make a new one for the apps sent out in 08/09 and try to figure out some trends.

So I'll start I guess...mine says that they completed a preliminary view as of 12/12, and I submitted it 11/24, so yeah, still waiting for those decisions. Everyone else post your status and let's basically keep this like the old thread, only....newer.

"Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2009)
We have received your Part I and Part II applications and are preparing your file for review. We recommend you check here occasionally for an update on the status of your application."

Haha yay!! I think I'm going to be checking this board everyday, every 2 hours.. just like I check my USC application status everyday, every 2 hours.... I'm obsessed.

I submitted mine 11/30, completed prelim review as of 12/10... waiting for it to change! :(

The change you REALLY want is " we have acted on your application". If you submitted by Dec 10, and have that week after next, then major congratulations are in order.
At the same time remember that the status notifications are not consistent, nor always meaningful, especially during the time frame when most of the decisions will be made.

I'm not sure why my status was changed to 'completed preliminary review' so late... I submitted my apps a couple days before the 12/1 deadline and the status said updated on 1/05... Hmm... is it cause I had an interview in December?

^ Nothing to be concerned about. They had to check a lot of applications. Sometimes these notifications don't reflect exactly when they've determined that all your materials are complete. May be that the particular officer who went through your material just updated your info a little later.

(I meant Dec 1 in post #4, Dec 10 was last year's early deadline.)

My prelim review was completed a while back. It just changed today to this:

Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th.

baseball: Last year they did for the first acceptances, but later on the status changes were generally not reliable. A lot of people received acceptances in the mail without there having been the "acted on" change. Do not put too much meaning in those status things, they are not always updated, particularly with the later waves.

As for "mail notifications", I believe that's a system for the internationals. US applicants just get the package/letter in the mail when it comes.
