kwonos, I know many people who have the blank line who would never get rejected. That is number one.

And number two is if you look at posts from previous years, there are people who got the blank line and were accepted.

So, there is no logic to the blank line if you see. It seems that most of the blank lines were just days after the applicant sent in his or her mid year grades, which people assume to be a decision on the application.

I have personally called about the blank line and the person in admissions said a blank line is neither good nor bad.

clearly we dont really know what the blank line indicates, but do you think it is a good thing if i got a blank line on the 13th of Feb?
I think either they hated me or they loved me

I'm not really sure why no one has mentioned this, but the blank line is in the "Admission Documents Received" section. Why would they file something they are going to send to you under things they have received from you, especially when they have a section labeled "Admission Documents Sent"? This myth does not make any sense. I would understand if the blank line was filed under documents they sent you, maybe. Clever idea I guess by whoever came up with the blank line hypothesis, but I am fairly confident there is no hidden meaning.

^^
I don't think it would unreasonably skeptical to not take the word of one random person on the internet with 0 accountability. People have said they called and the admissions staff said it means nothing as well. Also things like that tend to degrade into a game of telephone. The admissions person says one thing to someone, they tell their friend, who posts it on the internet, and before you know it the original message has been changed completely. And that's assuming no one lied or was incorrect in that process.

I know this website has a fairly low burden of proof for rumors and that's what makes it useful and frustrating at the same time, but I would just like to point out that there is even less evidence for this rumor than most.

There have been so much speculations on what this blank line means. From our experience from last year, the blank line was filled with "Decision Notification" after the decision was mailed/notified. The date listed was the date that they made the decision (either accept or reject). After a few days since the decisions are being mailed now, all those blank lines will be filled with "Decision Notification". Check it out after you get your decision. There was a question on why it is under "Documents Received". I guess they just use it for their own purpose. I have also seen "Folder pulled committee read" under "Documents Received", and certainly they didn't receive anything from you there either.

If the blank line does indicate the day when they drafted my decision letter, then they basically decided my admission status before they received my mid-year report. I must have been a really bad applicant?

They received the final part of my application (my scores after I had to resend them) on 8 March and my blank line is dated to 11 March. A little too quick in deciding. I’m hoping it’s not a flat out rejection, and I don’t think my application is that weak!

Um, lol? How is that “a little too quick on deciding”? Would you prefer if they spent a week on every applicant’s file? Having a blank line from three days after receiving the last part of your application doesn’t mean anything, good or bad. Stop fretting over it.

Am I the only one that doesn’t have a blank line? I remember I had one a few weeks ago, but it has since disappeared.

Also, didn’t an admissions officer recently post on the official Facebook page that these blank lines mean nothing, and are due to system updates?
