What drives you to do well in school?

It could be aspiration, passion, a thirst for knowledge, desired freedom, external pressure, gratification of succeeding in "the game," the pursuit of ego, etc. that determines you to succeed positively in the educational system. What is it that drives you? And whatever it may be, why?

Internal pressure…my parents don’t care and my community doesn’t care, but I would hate myself if I didn’t do well in school. It’s something I’ve conditioned myself to do for a long time. I don’t have any skills or talents, and I feel like doing well in school is the only way I can prove to myself and the world that I’m not a waste of space.
Up through tenth grade I just did well in school because I liked it and it was easy…those were the years during which I conditioned myself to do well. In theory I still like to learn for the sake of learning, but I guess I have senioritis now. I hope it’s not permanent.

I’m physically disabled, and a lot of people think I’m dumb at first glance just because I’m in a wheelchair. I want to prove that I’m not. Plus, I really do love to learn. Reading/studying is very easy when you’re stationary, unlike other activities.

I guess my tough upbringing and rough financial situation drives me to succeed. My father always told me I deserved better than what I was born with and I guess I want to prove to my friends/teachers/myself/society that what he says is true.

I kind of want to just be successful and there’s something in me that makes me want to do well in school. My parents also have a bit of influence, because of their background.

The fact that I want to get the hell out of high school and start the easy life in college. Unfortunately I regret this. I studied my ass off in high school and now I have no desire to do **** in college.

:( I’m sorry, that’s just awful. Can’t even begin to imagine what you go through.

@repede thanks, it’s ok :slight_smile: Everyone has detractors, the key is to ignore them and keep kicking butt.

@ironchariot dude…ur username just got 100x better. Way to kick ass and take names

@iron I love your username… Seriously. :smiley:

Here’s my “what drives me to do well in school” list…

 1. I want to prove to people that I can do anything I set my mind to.
 2. I want to prove that to myself too^.
 3. I want to be successful later in life, so starting now can’t hurt!
 4. I honestly love learning.
 5. I like being happy (who doesn’t?) and getting bad grades makes me kind of unhappy. So, I work hard to not get them.

@oba thanks :slight_smile: my username is an homage to the fact that my chair empowers me instead of hindering me, and also to the fact that i love ancient history.

Ambition.

10char

There are a couple of classes/clubs I truly love at my school, and I can’t even imagine not being motivated to do well in them. I guess I’m motivated to do well in everything else because of a leftover effect from that small group of awesome things.

Primarily, any drive I have comes from parental pressure.

In certain classes, a love for learning. AP European History and Biology are probably the best examples - they’re the only classes I can think of where I studied the material to learn it, not to improve my grade.

In truth, though, I’m not doing all that well. Senioritisss. ; u ;

Just to be better than the rest. Props to ironchariot btw

I choose classes with topics that interest me and raise my hand as much as possible. It is usually rather effective.

Most of my classes do interest me, so the drive to do well and study usually comes naturally. In the classes that don’t…haha, my family isn’t that well off, and I guess I want success later in life. So I push myself if things aren’t going my way.
Also ironchariot you are awesome!

Reading through this thread, I must also commend ironchariot on his or her optimism and perseverence despite adversity, as well as his or her excellent sense of humor. Fantastic username choice.

Either interest or in classes I don’t care about, the drive to be #1.

thanks guys :slight_smile: I’m a girl btw
