What elective should I take?

So I know this is a bit of a personal question but I’m currently a freshman and I’m having some trouble deciding what 2 electives I should take next year. I aspire to be a computer science major so I will definitely take the computer science elective offered at my school. However, I do not know whether to take an art elective or an economics elective for the second option. In order to join DECA, I was told that I needed to have some sort of economics elective, and DECA sounds like a great opportunity to stand out compete on a large scale and I feel as that would greatly benefit my college application, additionally DECA is one of the few “competitive extracurriculars” offered at my school. As for Art, it is something that I have a personal passion for and I could reach AP Studio Art level by junior year. Again, I am unsure of what to choose. What would be more beneficial for my college application?

Both would be fine. Colleges won’t like one over the other and neither is a make or break class.
Can you do economics+ DECA next year, and take fine arts junior year with AP studio art senior year, while continuing DECA?

On the other hand, your choice of core classes matters - what would you take?

The rule at my school is that in order to join DECA I would have to either currently be taking an economics class or have already completed 1 year of an economics class, so I only have to take an economics class 1 year to be in DECA for all my other high school years. As for art, I would prefer to be taking AP Studio Art in my junior year so as to have a completed portfolio by the end of that year. Regarding core classes, my school does not let students take AP classes until junior year so I would be taking all Honors courses in Algebra II, Chemistry, English II, US History, and additionally Italian II.

Ok you’re good with your core classes.
Flip a coin?
I’d go with art since it sounds like you love it and want to submit a portfolio – all in all there are fewer good portfolios than DECA participants (if DECA only interests wrt college admissions).

Thanks for the advice, that definitely cleared a lot of my concerns.

I agree with @MYOS1634. If you like both equally, it does not matter which one you do for college applications. I recommend that you write down a pros and cons list for each and decide which has more pros. It can also be helpful to ask upperclassmen in the class, teachers, and counselors on more information or syllabi for the classes.

Good luck and have a good day!
