Trying to plan out my high school electives and extracurricular ideas. I am taking show choir, which I’m excited about but I am trying to decide whether to take debate or art. Art has always been a huge passion of mine, I just love to paint. I want to get through to AP Studio Art. But debate team is fascinating. At my school, it’s a class but of course required other commitments. I need to pick one over the other, any thoughts?
No one can decide for you.
Can you take one as a class and one as a club, for instance?
You might consider trying Debate and continuing Art on your own if it’s possible to get through AP Studio Art without starting in art freshman year
What do you imagine you will want to do in the future? If it is a major/career in art, then take art.
Would you take debate all 4 years? Or just this one year?
Do you want to work on your public speaking skills?
Could you start with debate this year, and do painting outside of school and then next year take art?
What courses do you need to take before you get to APStudio Art? Can you fit them in?
You expressed a passion for art as well as a goal for art – getting to AP Studio Art. You expressed no passion or goals relating to debate. Just go with art. You can find other opportunities to develop your verbal skills – perhaps in the context of exhibiting and promoting your art or teaching others the value of art.
