My sister and i submitted financial aid and we both got a message saying our EFC is 10. Does that mean we have to pay 10 dollars? i don’t fully understand
Usually it would have zeros in front of it. Something like 000010. Is that what it says? If so that’s $10. BUT that does not mean that’s what you will pay. It depends on the college you attend. What it DOES mean is that you will get almost a full Pell grant, which will amount to about $6,100 (each). That’s money you don’t have to pay back.
well it did say efc 00010 but i checked my student aid report it just says 10
now
OK, so as I said above, that’s what it means. What types of schools are you planning to apply to? Local schools that you can commute to from home? Community college? Schools where you will dorm? Top 50 schools? Elite schools?
community college
Your Pell grant will likely cover a large proportion (or maybe even the full amount) of tuition at a community college. Do you know what the tuition is at your community college?
well i have to pay about 2500 for fall 2019
So, $5,000 for the full academic year? Is that full time?
Yes I am enrolled there full time. I’m taking 12 credits. i owe 2512.25
You are already enrolled? For what academic year is the FAFSA you just filled out? When did you start?
2019-20. I made my schedule beforehand. I had filed for fafsa in the beginning of may
It looks like you’ll get a Pell Grant of about $3k/semester. It will be sent directly to the school and anything left over will be refunded to you. What state are you in? Are there state grants for low income students?
Yes, that is correct. You will get a Pell grant that will cover almost all of the tuition. Read up about Pell grants so you know how they work.
