I've never heard of this, and yet people seem to be making a huge deal about this. I'm pretty interested. I'm at CA, so is there a Governor school at CA? Thanks.

They are free, competitive summer programs run by a state's department of education. They are usually preparation for college life and academics but they aren't college classes per se. They are designed to meet needs that individual high schools cannot meet.

i'm pretty sure the only Governors school in california is an arts one

I'm curious too.
Are they residential? And are they only for US residents? Or also US citizens?

I've never found one in Massachusetts.

North Carolina has some great governor’s schools. Very completive no cost residential high school summer programs open to North Carolina residents only. You compete to get in one subject and they pair you with another subject for enrichment. NC also has the ultra competitive 2 year residential Governors School of Math and Science.

North Carolina doesn't have a math and science governor's school. Your probably talking about NCSSM North Carolina School of Math and Science. It's not run by a state department either it's just like a free boarding school.

Virginia's governor's school program has summer program as well as academic-year programs.

Is the California Governor school CSSSA?

abercrombieindy - The North Carolin School of Science and Math (NCSSM) is a 2 year State run residential Magnet School for North Carolina Junior and Senior high school students. Highly competitive and often considered a open door to free rides at many colleges.

If we do not have this program for our state, are we allowed to apply to other states program?
