I realized that common app is rather broad. I feel like it gives me room to write almost about ANYTHING...idk.

provided that I have space, can I write something like, "writing in my diary," or about other personal hobbies that might be "intellectual" or introspective in some way. If I read philosophy and psychology and that stuff (that my school doesn't have any clubs/classes related to) on my own time for my own enjoyment, can I put something like that down?

yes, I do. And I am putting those down. It’s a bit pitiful though compared to those of others here on CC.

But I’ve always spent a lot of time on what I found interesting or engaging, not necessarily things that “colleges want to see”. probably. Would those interests count as “activities” in any way?

And if I self-learned piano and have used those skills in volunteer activities, would you advise that I indicate my skill level anywhere on the app? (like, provide a name of a piece I can play)
