What exactly makes banking attractive to other employers?

The main attractive thing about banking is the exit opportunities, and while HFs and PE/VCs seems to be the most popular choices, tech startups, consulting, or even government jobs aren't uncommon either. While I can see how someone who's done banking might be suitable to join a HF or PE/VC, I don't quite see the same can be said for other types of jobs.

Is it the willingness/ability to put in long hours? The great attention to detail? Or proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint?

At the end of the day, people who go into investment banking tend to be very smart, hard-working, persistent, outgoing, and have a strong interest in business. A wide range of other industries will hire investment banking analysts because of these qualities, not because of any specific skills that the analysts develop while they’re in investment banking. For some fields e.g. consulting, though, proficiency with Excel/PPT might be a plus, although I’m not entirely sure about that.
