I’ve been contemplating majoring in Economics in College, but after reading a few articles I’m not so sure anymore. In the articles the former wall street employees explained how the job/life ratio is terrible and it’s miserable overall. Is this true for most banking jobs? Is the money worth spending countless hours making spreadsheets on excel?
It’s admittedly tough to find a banker who will outright tell you they love their job. The majority of analysts that have continuing offers generally look for exit opportunities after their 2nd year, typically private equity or hedge funds. Recently a new opportunity as quantitative, growth, or strategy analysts for a lot of “startups” has emerged with recruitment from the same banking experience.
At the end of the day, the decision of whether or not it is worth it will have to depend on you and your own values. The majority of people you confront will probably say it’s not worth it, but you have plenty of options if you dislike it and want to change careers.
@AoDay What are some alternatives to it if you want to exit after 2 or 3 years. Sorry I’m new to this.
1st paragraph listed some.
