As an alum, I am just wondering...

I was looking for a very diverse student body and a lot of traditions, and I found both of those things at Mount Holyoke!

One in every two students here is either a domestic student of color or an international student at Mount Holyoke, which is amazing! As someone from a Boston suburb, I was worried that the community at some of New England’s small liberal arts colleges would remind me too much of the basic demographic that I went to high school with, but I knew that wouldn’t be the case at MHC.

I was also really attracted to the traditions at MHC. Class colors/mascots, Mountain Day, Pangy Day, Big sister little sister, Grandmother Classes, M&Cs, Elfing, Dis-Orientation, first year plants, gracious dinners… the list goes on! The alumni network is so enthusiastic and it’s awesome to be able to bond over customs that they experienced while they were students that still happen today. At admitted student weekend I got the impression that there was a really strong sense of community here and I think that the traditions have a huge part in bringing everyone together.

MHC2015, everything you mentioned is what I remember so fondly about my years at Mt. Holyoke. I grew up not far from campus, and our family would take “Sunday rides”. When we would go by the campus, I would look at all the women walking around and just knew one day I would attend…and I was just 12! MHC truly is a very special place!

I actually never thought that I’d think about (nevermind apply early decision) to an all-women’s college. What brought my attention to MHC, however, was an e-mail I received from Jeanne (the MHC rowing coach) one day (I was a coxswain all through high school). She described Mount Holyoke (a small, women’s liberal arts college in Western MA). I said no thank you! A few weeks later, my college counselor suggested that I should at least go check it out. I went for a tour and information session over the summer, and both my mom and I thought it was pretty neat how everything at MHC was structured with women in mind. Mount Holyoke stayed near the top of my list, but I still weighing out many college options. Later in the fall, I visited again so I could get a sense of what campus was like with students on campus. I fell in love. The sense of community on campus was so great. I thought that the girls here might be a little catty, that’s what I experienced in high school. All the students I met were unbelievably supportive of eachother. The professors in the classes I went to weren’t just lecturing - they were engaging. Every leadership opportunity, all the labs, all the athletic facilities are 100% meant for women. I thought that I could really bloom here at MHC, and that is what got me hooked on Mount Holyoke. This place has undoubtedly exceeded my expectations.
