What happened?

The “new plural” is an obvious bug. The code that writes “1 new post” or “2 new posts” has to write *post<a href=“singular”>/i</a> if there is only one, and *posts<a href=“plural”>/i</a> if there is more than one. In the comments or code in that section, the programmer used the word plural to describe what was going on, and somehow “plural” crept inside the text that was to be displayed. It’s a harmless but annoying bug, which will no doubt be fixed after they go after the more serious problems.

And yet another problem discovered. I tried to look back at the threads a poster has started. There should have been several pages, but when I clicked on the “more discussions” in the lower right corner to go to a previous page, it did not go back. Stayed on the same page.

jym626…I could not replicate what you described. Can you PM me the member profile in question? Thanks!

Will do. But I’ll try it again. Am on a different computer, not that it should matter.

sent you the info, lenitus

…and I responded

You know, some of us probably could handle this sort of stuff! I’m sure there are students on here who would be happy to help out–if I recall correctly, there are already a couple of college-age members who are moderators, so this wouldn’t be too far of a stretch.

And they wouldn’t even have to be working on major projects from the get-go. They could get started by fixing minor bugs or just observing how the other programmers handled issues, and once they got better they could try doing some things of their own. With the number of people I see on here who are coding their own apps and whatnot, seriously, this could be really beneficial to both parties.

Anyway, glad the problem seems to be (mostly) fixed now.

Got it, lenitus!

We don’t own the codebase, so problems that arise must be dealt with via the vendor who is hosting CC…and that requires a specific process where tickets are entered into their queue, prioritized, assigned dev time, etc. I suppose the “techy nerd kids” could work for the vendor.

More glitches yesterday and we are back to the plural post reports. What’s going on? Was there a hack?

Many ED announcements have been coming out lately. Might have overloaded the system? ANd now its back to terms like “recent discussions” rather than “latest posts” which personally I prefer, but oh well…

It didn’t happen last year, even with the regular decision wave.

And they didnt have the same website host last year, IIRC. Then again, it used to happen routinely in past years. ED date, RD date- site crashed.

Can’t imagine this has anything to do with ED/EA since we are now getting that “two new plurals” for new replies.

Whoever is playing with the verbiage of the forum needs to leave it in draft mode!

Now what happened to all the stuff that used to be listed under “activities”?? Some old conversations are gone, but more importantly, my old, original helicopter parent icon picture is gone and I wanted to keep that to possibly reincarnate at some point.

We’re clearly currently in some suspension, operates but on some temporary plane. I’m guessing we;ll eventually see what we did before, none of the little gnat things like “discussions” instead of “posts” or “plural.” As it is right now, for me, some pages follow the expected conventions and some do not- even in the same session.

I’m getting the error pages again that I was getting yesterday.

I’m getting a lot of Error 503/Server overload/ and x_x Something’s gone wrong pages. Also can’t access my notifications anymore - I see a number in the red circle but don’t get anything when I click except a pop up box that says:
Error 503 Service Unavailable

Another day, another issue:

<a href=“http://i.gyazo.com/e90ba7363f2d0b2016f13689e99dcd7c.png[/img]”>http://i.gyazo.com/e90ba7363f2d0b2016f13689e99dcd7c.png

</a>

Can we at LEAST get an update about what’s been going on the last few days?
