Yesterday, I received the confirmation letter from TUFTS. They accepted me through the Early decision 1 programm, which is technically binding. I now, after I received the conformation from TUFTS, want to send my applications to some UK universities.
Could that have any negative effects? Lets say, in the end, I still go to TUFTS. Would they know?
And what happens if I end up at a UK university? Any worries if I wanted to do my graduate degree at any other US university?
I agree with marvin… but, I suppose you can say the finaid package is not good enough and you will not be able to afford. They should understand that. And they also have a waiting list, they can easily fill your place. But you should go if you signed the letter, if you’re able to afford.
Who knows. But this is true. You can pretty much assure any future applicant to Tufts from your high school will be rejected for the next dozen years or so if you simply screw them out of your ED status. You should never have applied ED if you reasonably thought you couldn’t adhere to the agreement.
Also, if you ever plan on transferring to Tufts or attending an elite US university for graduate or professional study your application will likely be on a “do not admit” list. Lower tier US schools won’t care though.
You don’t care that you will be screwing every Tufts applicant from your HS --and maybe even from your country – for at least the next decade? And that you will make a liar of your guidance counselor, who had to sign off that you understood the meaning of ED and who signed off to vouch for you?
Do you realize that Tufts has to officially release you from ED? If not, your HS will not cooperate in any additional applications. They won’t send your transcripts, recommendations, etc. (At least they are not supposed to. If they do, then your country is off the list for any Tufts acceptances in the future.)
This is what will happen: Your lack of integrity will be on display for all to see. You will be emboldened to escalate your cheating in the future.
You guys have no idea about my country, my high school or my situation at all?
About 3 people have written that it is morally wrong. I KNOW THAT BY NOW! Thank you anyway for telling me again how “wrong” that would be. Do you have any ideas how unis work? They ask for thousands of dollars while being a ‘non-profit’ organization and making profit?!
I addition to that: If I dont go the uni has thousand others on the waiting list so no worries there…??
People here aren’t answering the question bc they don’t believe in helping applicants be dishonest, cheat or lie in the process bc other kids who did not do so are harmed by it.
Is “the list” an urban myth? Who knows. Maybe, or maybe not. It’s the risk you have to live with. Good luck.
If you don’t want to go to Tufts, you can contact them and say that you would like to be released fro your ED agreement to attend a university in Europe. They accepted you ED because they assumed they were your first choice. If that is not the case any more, then ask if they will release you from your agreement. They may say yes because no school wants to force someone to attend who doesn’t want to be there - there are too many other applicants who would love that opportunity. The reason to do this is that it’s the honest way to approach them. It not ‘immoral’ to change your mind and ask them for an out. If they grant it, then you are welcome to walk away.
I don’t believe for a minute there is a ‘do not admit list’ that exists. I do think if you break the ED without their permission, your high school will suffer the consequences in subsequent years.
