I know it's technically due on August 15th, but can I pay it in full before September 15th with no penalty? Can I still pick up my classpass and get my ID?

any compelling reason why not to?

I actually have the same question. It’s going to be impossible for me to pay the bill by August 15th because of reasons too complicated and boring to explain. While browsing through the billing website i read i could be dropped from all the classes and my registration blocked. If this happens, needless to say, i’m in a lot of trouble. I’ll probably call them tomorrow and explain my situation and see if i can sort this out. I’ll let you know how it went.

wxmann, i don’t get my college fund until september, so it would be kinda hard to pay it now.

oh well. i paid the first installment and now have about $20 in my bank account ahahah

You don’t have to pay anything now. You have a month-long grace period before you incur any late fees. So the bill, which is “due Aug 15” isn’t really due until Sept 15. No need to worry about financial aid not coming thru. Have a while before you need to be concerned. To the person who just wiped out their checking account, you’ll get a nice refund when your loans/grants/scholarships are processed.

Chill!

@Smallz3141 - Could you explain this a little more? I have like 17k due by August 15th and i thought the last date was day after tomorrow. So if there is this grace period why does CARS say its due Aug 15th ? Does this mean i can afford to pay my reg fees till sept 15th ? very confused.

If you have 17K due, I’m guessing a large portion of that is for housing. First, you can defer payment, so instead of having one large ~$13K payment for the dorm, you can break that up into ~$1.5k per month. You can do that via e-bill.

And yes, there is a 30 day grace period where you won’t have any late fees. So while the bill is technically due Aug 15th, there is absolutely no penalty if you pay it later than that (up to 30 days). After that I think it’s like a $20 late fee. So my advice to you (and everyone) is to not pay the bill until you see all your loans/grants paid thru. Last time I checked, on Bearfacts it says they have been processed but it’s still not reflected on the actual CARS E-bill. So wait until then. If you do pay now, once your loans/grants get processed you will get a refund for the difference.

If you have private scholarships (i.e. not Berkeley’s Regents), some of them may take some time to be sent to Berkeley and be processed so you may have to pay some of the bill, and again you’ll get reimbursed (or credited) once that scholarship is received.

Actually a significant part of that 17k is tuition. I’m international.

^ ah, gotcha. Same thing applies though.
