I feel morbid for asking this question, but what is the protocol for when a professor dies in the middle of a term? Has this happened to any of you? Was the class dropped, did you receive a grade, were you able to take a different class...?

I'm sure the school would find another professor to finish the term...

I had a professor pass away in the spring about 2/3 into the semester. Other professors took over his courses for the semester. I assume that's usually the case.

I had a similar situation where a professor had serious mental health issues and had to stop working about halfway through the semester. Another professor took over the class.

Sadlly, the first professor ended up committing suicide about a year later.

I feel worse for the professor's grad students than for the students taking the class.

yeah...they'd just assign a new prof -- just like any other job.

why? are you planning a hit or something if it got you a free A??

Well... if that's the case, you may have better luck with your roommate (just make it look like a suicide)! ...errr...

(it's nothing but a legend but... Rumor has it: Leave your roommate alone; his death won't get you a 4.0 | The Bryan-College Station Eagle Collegiate/grades for dead roommate )

sometimes, i wish my prof. get sick more often....
In fact, I am happy seeing some of my prof. getting tired of going to class because they have so much things to do... hehehe... they just sometimes give up and give you more hints on the midterms..

This happened to me senior year. There were a couple of classes left in the term, and a different professor stepped in to supervise the TAs who were grading the term papers. He also led the last two classes, but all we did in those two classes was mourn the professor and discuss ways that we could honor his memory.
