What happens? No Nomination? Am I done???

And as for that statement, my rep. was right to say that it was the “toughtest district” to get into Naval Academy." It’s literally in the district! but at least I get to visit every so often.

Good luck and I hope to see you in the future. I just was waitlisted at coast guard. Try the service academy forums too for good information about Dodmerb. The posters there are very helpful and knowledgeable.

You can be the greatest applicant in the world and you WILL get turned down without a recommendation… I may be wrong but I believe you can get a recommendation from an general/admiral (like I said, not 100%)

As for getting a slot in another state, even if it was possible it is not going to happen most likely. The Cadets they send reflect on the state they are from and will probably go to a citizen of said state. And to add to what @TV4caster said, there is NO shortage of applicants.

I suggest you enroll in ROTC at the school of your choosing, unless you know a colonel-level officer or above or a politician that can pull strings.

Good luck :)>-

(also, no offense, but the SAT scores are probably what screwed up you getting a recommendation)

@Ultimablade : What is the difference between a recommendation and a Nomination?

@aglages, I was actually (incorrectly) using them interchangeably. Sorry for any confusion.

@Ultimablade :I wasn’t confused. Details are important and there is a HUGE difference between a recommendation and a Nomination. I was concerned that YOU were confusing people that were asking for advice, or people that might read this thread in the future. Some people rely on the advice they receive on these forums to make important decisions. Hopefully this will be another lesson to take ALL advice on public forums with a grain of salt and to verify EVERYTHING before choosing ANY course of action.

Okay…I do feel that my question was somewhat answered but I still am unclear about a situation where a candidate is stellar academic, med q, and physically q (3Q) but no nomination. I did pass by a forum but I can’t pull it back up that answered this thoroughly. Would they just deny this person because of the nomination absence? (that all applicants need the nomination to be appointed) I am getting this feeling from many people as one person just told me that he ended his application process because he had 0 nominations… :frowning:

Furthermore, I hate to blatantly put this out for whatever reason–I have been scoring 700-mid 700 on my SAT as my scores have improved dramatically through prep and excessive practive tests and review. I hope this entails a better score result. Although I am taking the SAT during Jan., would I have absolutely no chance for admissions if I scored well (I hate to put it (1400-1500 SAT Math+Crit); already have decent grade and rank top 6% 3.76 (unweighted) 4.45 weighted) but had no nomination?

And how does one go about knowing leadership potential? The “candidate activities record” where you check all the leadership roles you had? Although all applicants surely do have great leading roles in the schools; I do feel that I have PLENTY of leadership positions at school and out of school.

Without a nomination you could have a 2400 SAT and a 36 ACT and still not receive an appointment. Not all nominations come from MOCs and the USNA Supe has some that he can use for candidates that he wants. Usually those are used for recruited athletes but can be used however he wants. Bottom line is you NEED a nomination from someone to receive an Appointment regardless of how great the rest of your application is. No nomination=No Appointment. Good luck!

OP, I can’t imagine how disappointing that must be if you don’t make it. Try again next year though - you can keep trying until you’re 23 and maybe persistence will count for something!

I got a nomination to USMA. Didn’t hear for USNA yet. I’m trying to be optimistic. Can’t wait to kill the SATs next week.

By the way, I got dq medically.

So I have yet to hear from VP and 1 Senator. I don’t know if the office that gave me the USMA nomination gave me USNA only because they might not have put the info yet.

What was the medical DQ for? Has a waiver been requested by the academies, yet?

Hearing (which i don’t really have a problem) and lazy eye (which is not visible unless cover test is administered). I really want to appeal my case because I don’t have a hearing problem. Never did. I am sure the med facility made a mistake because I asked them to restart the test and they might not have.

Is one allowed to do another medical test? by his/her own expense? Not sure if this would help. An reg. commander from USMA told me to turn in paperwork regarding my DQ but I thought the DQs were final…

and i got Air Force

most likely, I have not receive Navy but I wouldn’t be surprised. After all I live in 3D maryland.

If you don’t get the nomination, reapply. I just learned that you can keep on applying and a good chunk of the class doesn’t get in on the first try.

Can a lazy eye be trained? With a little more time could you erase its effects?I remember PSAs from when I was kid about treating lazy eye.

Actually, my lazy does not show. I’m serious. I haven’t trained but ever since I was like 5 or something I was determined to not allow my eye to shift. I guess you could say “train” but it was sort of a thing that I just did. Now, no one recognizes it. I do have somewhat poor vision but its all correctable 20/20. I wear bifocals (both glass which is actually a prism just for reading and contacts); my vision is different both eye as you might guess from lazy eye.

Howeverrrrrrrrrrrrrr…for hearing. Never heard that I had this condition. Pretty sure its just the people working there that tested me. They even forgot to put in an extra digit for my test and I had to retry. Yes I WILL APPLY to all the big 3. Being an officer is my goal. I did ROTC, no NROTC.

what i meant is that I applied for ROTC
