YAY for Bronx Science!

Deerfield, St. Paul's, Exeter, and Andover.....in no particular order

x___infatuation:"And they're the only school in America to have a sophomore named a National AP scholar, who took 9 AP exams and scored a 5 on all of them."

As if the National AP scholar award were something to strive for...

suze: "Pride is great and there are many great schools. But the question was which are nationally (and we can add internationally, recognized). Give or take a few it's a no brainer.

Privates: Andover, Exeter, St. Paul's. Deerfield, Choate, Eaton."

I assume that "Eaton" was a typo, and you meant to type "Eton."

CesareBorgia, cut the smartarse talk...your last two posts here aren't very relevant...a sarcastic remark and a typo notice...?

framingham high school, framingham, MA...ya damn right

shrek2004: "i dont get the point of going to a crazy well-known school...if u take advantage of the opportunities at ur school and ur community, ull be just as competitive as someone going to exeter lol"

I disagree. Let me state my bias up front. I am a senior at Exeter. The resources available to me (largest secondary school library in the world, the largest endowment of any secondary school in the world, etc.), the culture of Exeter, and the quite powerful alumni network cultivate the mind as few other places (Andover, Eton, Boston Latin; not Choate, Deerfield, St. Paul's) seem to be able to. Although I do agree with you that an intelligent person will not be hindered by his(/her) environment provided he is driven, I believe that you are dismissing Exeter too lightly. There is a, "point of going to a crazy well-known school."

P.S. Monday, B.F. Skinner will be coming to philosophy class to discuss his views on determinism and verbal behavior. This is but one example of the power and reach of Exeter. This power and reach is bent towards one purpose: the education of the Exonian.

I wanted to make sure that he/she wasn't reffering to a school of which I was unaware.

Also I was deploring the Advanced Placement tests which put much too much emphasis on facts vs. essays. Note that I have an AP award myself; yet I still criticize the system.

Yeah yeah I know, but you made it sound like you were making Harker seem like a second rate school compared to Exeter. It might not be as large or high in prestige...but its first graduation class was in 2002 and for an SAT score of 1410 its pretty good...you can't judge an established boarding school in New England with a new private school in Silicon Valley...give my school some credit, geez...

All I have to say is that its a matter of opinion. I had to choose between Andover, Exeter, and St. Paul's, and everyone in my family wanted me to go to Andover, because they'd say "My nephew/grandson/cousin got accepted into Andover." Everybody says "Wow, that's the Kennedy and Bush school!!!" But I had to make the decision for myself and my mom supported me. And I chose St. Paul's, which I really loved.

There was alot of hype over Exeter's library, which I thought was really ugly from the outside, but the architecture was really cool and simple on the inside, but the five floors was a turnoff.

Hmm.. well these are the ones I've heard of/known people who went there:

National:
Montgomery Blair HS in MD
Exeter
Andover
Choate
NC Math&Science

and of course..
Illinois Math & Science Academy . haha. i don't actually know how well it is compared nationally, btu in IL it's pretty good.

You left off the top school in CA, Whitney. The second school in LA county is California Academy of Mathematics and Science. Unless I missed one; it hurt my eyes looking through that list :)

esahopeful95: "There was alot of hype over Exeter's library, which I thought was really ugly from the outside, but the architecture was really cool and simple on the inside, but the five floors was a turnoff."

1) The hype is more over the amount of books in the library (the most of any library of any secondary school in the world) than over the architecture.

2) The architecture is quite famous. The Exeter Library is being featured on a set of Post Stamps by the U.S. Post Office, as part of a series of great architecture.

3) The Library has 9 floors, not 5.

westwood
etc.

Well the hype I got was about the library itself, and 9 is even more of turnoff. Now I'm really glad I didn't choose Exeter, I might run into you.

in reality, most who are not on CC will not even know of the top boarding schools such as Exeter or Andover, so i don't think they are really any schools that are nationally recongnized by the majority of the public.

hilary, how come boston latin and lexington didn't make your MA list? =) just curious...

CesareBorgia: I agree that without the vast array of opportunities really good schools can offer, students are less stimulated and possibly less likely to do as well as they might have at a school which actually caters to them. However, doesnt that make a student who is able to stand out at an average school even more admirable than an Exonian because he or she has the motivation to go beyond what his/her school has to offer?
In other words, I think Im not alone in saying that youre being really supercilious, especially in your emphasis on the power and reach of Exeter. Tone it down a little, please.

x___infatuation: go Harker. ^^v

Who is this second, living B.F. Skinner?
