What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

I found this wrapping paper cutter and I am sending it to our daughters as an early Christmas gift. I figured that they could use it before Christmas.

Sliding Gift-Wrap Cutter - Lee Valley Tools

I could put this in the “random questions” thread but thought this thread might get more views/suggestions!

Has anyone gifted a “coffee of the month” type subscription?? My D’s bday is this weekend and I won’t see her in person. I’d like to send her something that I can “gift” that I can send the notice of the subscription. I’m almost certain her fiance is getting her a new coffee maker (not espresso maker, they have one) so I thought keeping with the theme it would be fun to get her a few months of coffee.

Any suggestions??

My son gave me a Mistobox coffee subscription that I love so much I’ve continued it after the initial subscription was up.

I’ll look that up!

I’ve always wanted a Barbour coat, so that’s all I’m asking for.

Soccer son wants an expensive golf club. We’ll also get him a new iPad and Apple pencil to use for note taking at school.

LEO son? Who knows. We’ll ask at Thanksgiving, but he’s not normal. It could be anything from tourniquets and quik-clot bandages to night vision equipment.

I’ll get my wife a new tennis racquet and gift certificates for massages at her favorite spa.

Get the one with the wax coating. The winter ones they make without it don’t hold up particularly well. Rain coats and quilted coats are all good quality too. (Ask me how I know :frowning: )

Oh yeah, I asked for the Classic Bedale waxed jacket. I’ll pick myself up a zip-in quilted Barbour vest for colder weather.

We give our kids (grown) money and stocking stuffers. One kid puts the money for travel and the other one finds something else to spend it on.

I will overbuy for GD, but that’s my job

As for myself, I would like a new pair of Oofos (mine are very worn) and since H likes to buy me something big - a Canada Goose coat. I know the coats are ridiculously expensive, but I live in a notoriously cold climate and I will wear this forever.

@FallGirl - I would definitely have a Canada Goose coat if I lived somewhere cold. I really can’t justify spending that much for a coat living in San Diego even with all the winter skiing I do. I’ll just have to live with my Patagonia parka

I am a proponent of cheapie parkas myself. The #1 factor in whether outerwear will be warm is not construction quality or even what the filling is, it’s size. Buy a much bigger size than your true size and you will be warm.

Helpful suggestion. I bought a medium even though small (not available in that style) in that brand seemed to fit me.

I do find that dollar store gloves can help a lot! I keep them in my windbreaker pockets most of the year. Thin headband sometime too.

Those are really pretty. I don’t see any retail locations and am hesitant to spend that kind of money from an online store. Have you purchased from them before?

Yes I have, from both. There’s also a Sundance retail store near me, they carry Chan Luu so if you have one nearby you could check them out there.

If you are looking for food gifts for family, friends, work people, whatever who are bakers - or wanna be bakers - I got a King Arthur catalog in the mail yesterday - who would of thought? Some nice gift ideas from single item things to bakeware to baking mixes to spices and gift sets.

I get my DiL something from King Arthur every year, and she does the same for me. There’s so many fun things you would never buy yourself but people who bake love ingredients-as-gifts

Great website! And they offer a reasonably priced advent calendar for those who like olive oils, vinegars and such.

I bought my daughter in law a King Arthur gift certificate for her birthday this year (she likes to bake). She loved it and was able to get a nice combination of things with it. I got their catalog yesterday too! Very nice.

This conversation takes me back to the annual Wilton tent sale in the Chicago western suburbs. It ran for two weeks every spring and was great. I think half our kitchen came from that sale. Not only was there every possible kind of baking dish and supply, but huge varieties of other stuff, including pots and pans, great picture frames, candles, etc. etc. etc. I would find tools I never knew existed and the price was reasonable enough to try them out.

I don’t remember the sale stopping as long ago as this article says, but maybe there were abbreviated events.

One of my sons got my husband a coffee subscription for his birthday a while ago (3 month subscription). He enjoyed it. Can’t remember the name. There are reviews and rankings of the different subscriptions online.

Yes, sure there are online reviews/articles about “best” subscriptions - but nothing beats the tried and true opinions of the CC crowd.

I am leaning towards the one mentioned above by @cinnamon1212 !!
