What holiday gifts are you buying (or receiving)?

I’m very particular about my coffee. I would not enjoy a coffee subscription.
King Arthur has great stuff. I learn a lot from their website.
I was gifted a few years ago a book of the month subscription. Each month they had a selection of books to choose from. If nothing interested you that month you could skip.

The coffee subscription is also tailored to your tastes - or type of coffee.

For nespresso aficionados…

If she’s got a great local coffee roaster in her town or city, give them a call, or Groundwork is great:

I like the look of that Olivier advent calendar, but couldn’t figure out the size of the bottles. Basically $4/day, so that seems a little much, but I think my daughter (really her boyfriend) would like it.

They are SO hard to buy for. This…or a lawn mower (since they stole mine).

I love that olive oil calendar too - but…$99 is more than I want to spend on a “novelty” gift!

Speaking of coats, last winter we got younger S a Canada goose one (not the parka kind) to replace the one he bought with his own $$ that he outgrew. He moved up to MA this summer but didn’t bring many winter clothes because of space limitations in his car. We shipped him a box and we are bringing 2 suitcases today, but I told him I would wear his Canada goose coat. I would NOT check it. I wouldn’t even put it in the overhead bin.

And this would be all well and good if it wasn’t 82 degrees right now!!!

The advent calendar is 15% off today with Oliviers and Co with Hello15 discount code plus free shipping but still pricey so I passed . I ordered 2 cheaper things -the olive oil and vinegar assortment and some white truffle salt (about $15 each with the discount). Hope son and daughter in law like them.

I am asking for a Nespresso Vertuo Pop+

Nice! GF options too

I was able to get more into off the website. Each bottle of oil or vinegar is about 20ml, or 4 TEASPOONS. That’s smaller than an airplane ‘shot.’

Too expensive.

But I like the idea and may look for something like it at World Market.

Therm-a-Rest Lumbar travel pillow. I’ve bought several for gifts and mysef since I’ve lost a few because I forgot to check everything while deplaning. It’s on sale on Amazon today.

At this stage of our lives, if we need or want something we buy it, so Christmas is usually buying each other things we’ve had our eye on. For example, after 40 years I need a new shop vac, so I am eagerly awaiting a new shop vac under the tree!

I wasn’t sure where to put this, but for those interested, Costco has the 3 pack of waxed amaryllis bulbs for $21.99 (at my store). They had gold and red waxed ones. I noticed they were very different in size so I did a quick Google, which said the large ones are better…so that’s what I purchased.

Parka has been purchased for my daughter in Boston and she’s already wearing it. She told me she prefers silver over gold and her current aesthetic is clean, plain lines and neutrals. So I am going to get her the Tiffany Infinity bangle, which is a nice good starter piece, and her other gifts will be cheap & cheerful things.

Usually I am an early and eager holiday shopper but I wasn’t feeling it this year. I think it dawned on me that my kids don’t need or want more stuff. S is in a 1BR apartment in NYC and D and SIL have a house decorated to their tastes. So I finally decided to order a small gift for each to put under the tree, get a gift card for an experience, buy a bottle of something they will enjoy, add in a few stocking stuffers, and give them a check as the bulk of the gift.

It is a different phase of life for my kids and it is (past) time for me to adjust the gift giving. (Hopefully we will be blessed with grandchildren in the future and can do some fun gifts again!!)

I love this menu of gift choices. The experience gift card, a bottle of something to enjoy, fun stocking stuffers, a personal item and maybe a check. I’d add in something to read if they are readers.

We think alike. My kids all use a kindle so my “something to read” is an Amazon Gift Card in the stocking. They don’t want physical books anymore.

Oldest S is getting a philosophy book I know he’ll enjoy; and he’s traveling overseas this week and next to visit GF he met during immersion program this summer (and she’s still there for another semester). He’s also headed to NYC with a friend (also met during summer program) for a few days after finals end before coming home on Christmas. We are funding both trips.

Youngest S is perusing Black Friday sales for another 3D printer, etc.

DH and I don’t exchange. We buy what we need/want as year unfolds.

I look forward to possible future years of buying cute baby or kid stuff….but……sons are only 20 and 18 so I have a long time to wait!

My daughter reads a lot, and always had a physical book with her. Occasionally though, she would find herself without something to read, and would use my Libby account to read books on her phone with the Kindle app. I suggested she might prefer an actual Kindle, but she insisted she didn’t want one b/c she liked reading physical books best. Then, a few weeks after Amazon’s Prime Day sale this summer, she said she wanted to get a Kindle. She decided that it would be more convenient since she will by flying back and forth to college, and being IN college she wouldn’t have much room to store books. Plus, she would no longer having access to our local library to borrow books. I was like seriously? You could have just gotten one on sale! I talked her out of it and told her to wait for the next sale.

She doesn’t have one on her Christmas list, but when Amazon had their second Prime day sale in October, I bought one for her without telling her. It will hopefully be a surprise, unless she remembers she wanted one and puts it on her Christmas list.

Aside from that, I haven’t bought a single gift. I have my kids make lists with links in Notes on their phone and share with me so anytime they update their list, I get a notification. I mainly buy from their lists, but try to get at least one surprise gift.

I noticed that several things on D18’s list are already on sale so I may buy b/f BF b/c inevitably if I wait, the size/color/item is out of stock by then.
