What holiday presents are you asking for?

Yes. There is an app that pairs with it for uploading photos.

I like Pyrex or Anchor Hocking measuring cups. I think Target may still carry a Pyrex 2 cup size that comes with a lid.

I will request a few low $ items from my kids…some new cozy sweatpants, a pair of earrings, makeup.

As for a big ticket item, I really want a Nood flasher, but not sure I want to be unwrapping that one in front of everyone LOL, so I may go with my backup request of a good quality pickleball paddle and some new cold weather gear.

I don’t request gifts – I am at the point in life where if I wanted something, Amazon or REI or someone has already delivered. Our kids tend to buy presents for ShawWife. What she and I are really hoping for is completion of our renovation by Thanksgiving (and at least by New Year’s.)

We have been and will do shopping for ShawD as all of her belongings burnt in the moving truck carrying them from San Francisco to Boston. ShawSon is more like me – but he doesn’t even want things. He will be moving and does want a dog (although hard to see that he and his wife have the time in their lives for a dog).

His wife gave both ShawWife and me brand new iPhone 14 pros with lots of memory. A phenomenal gift.

sounds scandalous, right? It’s just a hair removal system.

I am rediscovering makeup.

If my kids ask me what I want for Christmas, I’m gonna tell them a quick trip to Sephora or Ulta beauty.

I used to wear make up every single day to work. I have complicated skin, so you can guess what happened to the make-up. Yep it either caked in, or slid off my face. I’ve tried everything Clinique, Lancome, Mary Kay, drugstore brands. Everything. Until. . . .

My daughter had an errand to run at the make up counter and I was amazed at what some of the more knowledgeable aestheticians were telling me about the new make-ups.

Yesterday I went to Sephora, and was very impressed with the new research.

They have a hand held facial reader that identifies color for the aesthetician to begin your palette. This young girl was absolutely amazing!!! You could tell she had studied the products.

She had her preferences, but you could tell, based on her facility with using language, how well-read she was. I think it helped that she was probably a student at the UC down the street. She seemed to know a lot about the ingredients and how those ingredients in the different setting sprays, moisturizers, and foundations would react on the skin. Then she’d have me try different products and they would do exactly what she said.

So because I’m trying to get ready for a wedding next summer, I’m going to ask my girls for a trip to Sephora That they can pay for and afford.

My daughters and I all buy on my Sephora account during the year and thus I’m a Rouge member. Which means most purchasing happens during the 2x year 20 percent off sales. Just got one Daughter a Dyson hair dryer for Hanukkah. And we bought tons of the expensive shampoo /conditioner brands we use Pureolgy, Olopex, Living Proof. Also our face lotions and make up from luxury brands. Therese really no other place this is e er on sale. We spent over $1000 this last week!

I was secretly hoping for something, the news came 2 days ago, not sure it will follow through or not.

Is there a code for that 20% off? Sounds like a good deal.

I found my new sewing machine at Costco.com. It’s fancier than I wanted but the price was decent and it works pretty well. Threading is similar to my old machine so not too much of a new learning curve.

I liked the reassurance I could return it if it didn’t meet my expectations.

The 20% off is for Rouge level ($1000 yearly spend). Between me and my daughters, my mom and my sister in law who I buy for we easily hit that level.

Today I saw a decent price on dinner theater tickets with our corporate retiree group and suggested as possible joint Christmas gift. Then I mentioned different idea I had to ask for piano tuning (even though I don’t play it much)… and hubby said we should just go ahead and schedule that now. It will be a good hobby with gardening season done, especially if I don’t restart running (on a break for foot issue).

I was admiring a friend’s class ring at lunch today and regretting that I never ordered one. I was too poor as a student, and then it just didn’t seem important, but it’s funny how I think I want one now. I went to the website of the company my university uses for class jewelry and used their step-by-step design feature to construct the ring I’d like. There was an option to “Share My Design,” so I sent it to DH to consider. Who knows? Maybe I’ll get a Christmas present this year after all.

I happened to be near a Sephora myself. Asked for a few things and they scanned my face also for color match.

I was matched to a concealer brand (illa) that I wouldn’t have looked at myself.

When I got home, I was sad that I hadn’t picked up a foundation also. The concealer match was really good. I received an email that suggested many concealers and foundations that matched my skin tone.

I thought that was really nifty.

I know the feeling! The aesthetician matched me to a long lasting liquid lipstick by Dior, but I didn’t go with it, because of my avoidance of liquids, and went the second suggestion of a matte. Well, I didn’t notice, until later, how the liquid lipstick dried well, felt good, looked good and lasted a long time such that I couldn’t initially take it off with the make-up remover! (It did come off)

Now, I want it, but I don’t remember the color! I’m too lazy to drive back, but I guess I should. (Stupidly, I didn’t start an account for my palette.)

We started doing that and it’s so much easier. Plus, most of us have what we want and need. I think back when we were all younger and just starting out, it was nicer to get gifts at Christmas.

Yep - we still get the “kids” (26-32) presents with that family, but the older generation does donations. During COVID we did donations instead of buying for multiple parts of the family, but we’re going back to gifts for some, because that’s what my husband’s siblings want to do.
