What/how to transfer...

Alright, I'm starting to get overwhelmed. I don't know what to do, who to ask what to do, or even what exact colleges to apply to...

I'm a college soph. and have no idea who to ask for help. I'm seriously so lost I don't even know what to ask.

Can someone PLEASE give me any advice on any of this.

Go randomly pick some colleges you like. Then look up their transfer acceptance rate and compare your stats. Make a list of the ones you like and have a good shot to get into. Then go to google and type in "Blank University Transfer Admissions" and the first result is usually their transfer admissions website. Look on the site and see how to apply. If it says common app, write it down and go to the next school. For all the common app schools, go to www.commonapp.org and add them, then do one big application for all of those. Just follow it all step by step...it's not too bad.

Thanks soccer_guy. It's sad that even as a college sophomore I don't know what to do. Shows you have adept my HS adviser was....

Narrow down your search based on major, gpa, location and cost if that is a factor. www.collegeboard.com has a college match, where you put in your desires and it gives you a list of schools. Give that a try and see what they recommend to get started.

"Go randomly pick some colleges you like."

SMFH

First, don't take soccer guy's advice.

Then evaluate why you want to transfer and what you want in a university. Then take lilymoon's advice. Looking up acceptance rates and randomly picking schools when you're already overwhelmed is such a dumb idea.

niddumas is spot on.

Thanks guys. I already have a list of roughly 15 schools, now I just need to cut that down. I'm not sure how or which though. I want to keep the "reach" schools on there, because those are the ones I'd like to attend most. I really want to make a chance thread, but without my GPA this semester I'm not sure how accurate it'll be.

give us some more information on what your current school is, which ones you're looking at as prospective transfers, your stats, and most importantly, what you're looking for in this new school that the old one didn't have. Not complaints, but what you hope to get from the change. After that, I'm sure we can REALLY give you some advice, and maybe which schools would suit you best. What kind of person are you? What's you GPA as of RIGHT NOW? (last semester, basically)

^Sounds good to me.

HS stats: GPA 3.0 UW, 3.4 W. SAT: 1280

I'm thinking of retaking it, I'm 100% sure I'll do much better. I didnt do ANYTHING in HS and still graduated with honors in all gifted/AP classes.

College:
Univ. of Pittsburgh: CBA (business school) and Honors College.
GPA: 3.5 (last year)
this semester: if all goes well then a 4.0, 3.9 at worst.
EC's: a lot of serious stuff. run a business, investment banking club, honors frat, collegiate scholars, tutoring, mentoring, etc.
Recs: one REALLY good one, one my adviser said she will give me (she sees I'm not happy here and wants to help) and not sure about my third yet.
I took a lot of upper level and honors courses. 1000's history and administrative justice ones. Basically the epitome of a liberal arts education.
Finance and econ dual major, but I take a lot of eclectic courses (basically whatever I like). I do take courses towards my major, but since I'm applying to some schools that only provide econ, I haven't gone to in depth.

What I want: A more intellectual place. People here just party. I went here because I didn't know what the hell i was doing coming out of HS. Now I know I want a better school (and it's a definite plus since I want to get into ibanking, which is VERY selective).

I'm looking at places like Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc... all the "prestigious" ones. I just feel like I'd be better suited there, and feel more "at home". I know my GPA isn't stellar, but I think all my other stuff is quite formidable. Plus, my essays will be very in-depth, personal, and focused. I have a very unique life story, and very, very high ambitions.

uh anyone?

The transfer process (applications, waiting, etc.) is a huge pain but it's SO worth it to be at a place you love. I just recently transferred to BC and I'm not a finance major but I've heard a lot about alumni here getting competitive jobs in I-Banking so you might want to look into the program here.

I dont know.. I wanted to help you out so much until I read this:

"I'm looking at places like Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc... all the "prestigious" ones. I just feel like I'd be better suited there, and feel more "at home"."

Then I was just sickened.

First off, you need to find out what you don't like about the school you're currently at, which doesn't really seem to be coming through right now, except for the fact that it's not a "prestigious" ivy.. nothing is wrong with UPitt, in fact I was accepted there.

Well the schools dont want to hear what i dont like, but since I sickened you with my comment, here's what i dont like:

I internally transfered from A&S into the business school, but they put me down as a dropout instead of transfer... for 10 months. I didnt get housing, which shouldve been guaranteed... and I'm an international student...
My first adviser messed up ALL my freshman courses and never put me into recitations and once even made up a lecture assignment just so it'd go through the system like it wouldnt be noticed by me when i walk into a ghost room...

I only went here b/c my deplorable HS advisers never helped, so I went to a school 10 minutes away.

And before anyone mentions this, I'm an international student who lives in Pittsburgh, aka Canadian citizenship. Pitt didnt know that, so you cant use the excuse "but you live 10 minutes away".

Let's see... their business program doesn't provide me what I want.

I dont like the frat party orientation, not a fan of big-time d1 sports. I dont like drinking every day.

I dont feel intellectually challenged, and a lot of the profs dont motivate me whatsoever, and I don't care if it's because I'm a soph, because I've taken the upper level courses, all the way up into the 1000's...

And I mentioned the "prestige" because I knew someone would lash out...
I want to attend Harvard because I like it. The campus, the learning, the opportunities. I dont think I should have to convince anyone but the admissions officers that I should attend their schools, which I genuinely do.

Yury, I don't quite comprehend what kind of advice you're seeking from us. You seem like you already have a clear understanding of what you want and where you want to go.

^What I'm confused about is what way to apply to schools, and still unsure of which. The common app unfortunately only applies to TWO of the 10 or so schools I intend to apply to. The entire process seems confusing and long. The common app site is quite confusing as well, and I cant seem to get any live help form them.

Pitt is definitely not a Frat Party school

I really don't think you have a real chance at the Ivy League schools you mentioned. No 4.0, Sats are to low, no hook, pouplar major they will reject you in IMHO. To go to H or Y etc. as a transfer you need to have the numbes just to have a chance. So sorry look into some other schools as well. Still apply but be realistic in your choices.

I have a few hooks.... I'm retaking the SAT's and I'm on route for a 4.0 this year, which should show "growth".
