What I learned at my visit

I have been in Princeton visiting the school for the past two days, and I've learned some interesting things:

-If you're a physics olmpiad, and you wrote an essay about playing chess with your grandfather, congratulations. You got in (probably).

-If you added an art supplement featuring semi-pro anime, congratulations. You got in (probably).

-If you wrote an essay about LARPing (Live action role playing lol) unfortunately, you scared the Adcom. Things are looking bad for you.

-There were 23,354 applicants

-They have been calling some teachers about reccomendations if they are very interested in the student

-125 students from Andover applied (ridiculous, class of only 300)...

-Apparently the essay and teacher recs are getting to be VERY important, maybe more so than SAT scores once you've passed a certain threshold.

-Class rank isn't that important to the adcoms, but rigor and grades are VERY important

-They have a wicked art gallery

I'm sure i'll think of some more stuff they said later...

Interesting information...

Is this true?

Yea its all true. I cornered an admissions officer after the information session, and these are some of the things he let slip. Oh also, they are apparently reading applications until about 2-3am every weeknight.

lol ^^ are you serious about the anime thing?

Im serious about all of it. The admissions officer was talking about apps that have stood out so far for being unique. He said that they sent the anime down to the art department and they loved it. They had never seen a semi-pro anime artist before. Even the thing about LARPing is real lol

I've never even played chess with my grandfather.

It's funny that, in retrospect, not doing that will be what kept me out of Princeton.

1 is me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol PSYCHE. I wish :p

Yea I kept hoping he would start talking about my application :( never happened

lol... when I visited they talked about some kid who was really into math, but who always had trouble meeting girls. For his essay, he wrote a mathematical equation about how, when he got to Princeton, he would try to hold a girl's hand.

The Adcoms loved it!

Did they say anything about sending in a research supplement?

FloatingSaturn....sounds like me (just not that extreme). shoulda wrote an essay about it

I didn't ask anything specific about research supplements, but he did mention that sending in advanced additional information that supports your intended major could help alot.

Poisonous, you're too nice

I was kind of curious about what LARPing was. Sooooo I looked:

Live action role-playing game - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

there is some great LARPing in the movie role models

^ was gonna say that. DAMN

Haha, thanks.

On the subject of LARPing: The reason that the adcom said that the essay scared them, was that the student actually brought LARP weapons to class, and pretended to attack his unknowing history teacher :P

Why didn't you ask him about the girl who wrote on essay on libraries???

The official news on the website said there were only 21,800 applicants, so I doubt the veracity of your information.
