What if I BOMBED in Sophomore Math?

Hello everyone! First I want to say thanks for replying- even though there were a few ...coughs... brusque people.
I appreciate all of your comments, but I think some of you are just plain wrong. haha I took the SAT and got a 2200 last January. That's almost enough to help me get into Princeton. And for the record, I DO have alumni relation. My Mom's cousin went to P. And again, for the record, I have minority status. So ha!
And yeah, I did do badly in 2 classes, but I have a special circumstance. And I make up for it with stellar marks in the humanities. (780 critical reading SAT!)
And just to clarify on my awards... TN Governor's School is very selective 80/280 applicants selected, and Congress-Bundestag is ultra-selective with 50/1500 applicants for the Southeastern region. Boo-yeah! And I am in my school's gifted program... Gifted people aren't perfect- I've noticed in school that less intelligent kids revere us like we are. If we score low in a class, the apocalypse is coming. Please!
And oh yeah- I'm fluent in Hrvatski (that's Croatian), cuz my family is European, and by next year, I'll be speaking German because of my Germany scholarship. Ha!
AND----- TO TOP IT ALL OFF----- I'm Tenessee's STATE Youth Representative for my religion!
I didn't come here to actually take your advice, people. (ESPECIALLY since most of you are just high schoolers yourselves- and possibly jealous). As a matter of fact, I did this just for fun.
~I'm applying to Princeton, and I know I'll get in. I can just FEEL it. It's an almost spiritual thing. Thanks everyone!

(Oh yeah- someone said something about Middlebury that was COMPLETELY not true! lol! One of my BEST friends GOES there! I asked her (yeah, she's a she) about the application-scandal-thingy, and she said that that was completely made up. IN YO' FACE! lal!

Ignorance is bliss

People who get 2400 on their SAT aren't as confident as you are. I got 2160 when I took it as a freshman, but I probably won't get into princeton.

Also, it doesn't matter how good you are in humanities, you should still be strong in math.

Lol. Funny man. It is true you have an alumni relationship, but that doesn't get you far. To be honest, your scores are mediocre at best. 780 is not "stellar". It isn't bad, but its not exactly awesome. It also means that you only got 1420 on writing + math, which is quite pitiful for someone who aims for princeton. And give me a break, that small fry scholarship is worthless. You may have minority status, but you are essentially caucasian. Being caucasian does give you a slight advantage over qualified applicants from asian, but not really that much. I doubt you will make it to a decent college despite your claims of being "gifted". It's pretty overrated.

I had the same problem as you. I got a C plus in honors precalc but REALLY wanted to go to Princeton. According to my ccs and everyone, I had the SATs, ECs, etc to get in, and I never got below an A on any other course in HS. To "make up" for the C I got my precal teacher to write a recommendation and I wrote about how hard I worked in precal, etc. Unfortunately, I got deferred ED and rejected RD. Now, since admissions at Princeton are so unpredictable and hard anyway, I easily could have been rejected even if I did get an A in precal. However, my GC told me that with admissions being so cut-throat these days, a stray grade or 2 pretty much automatically put you in waitlist/reject pile. Your whole Germany thing sounds pretty interesting though, so have fun with that. And get excited about other schools that are not Princeton, even if you do eventually get in there.

Like I told someone else in another thread, if you receive a C in some random advanced/ap class, it pretty much means you're destined for community college if that. Evil Asian Dictator has it right.

Admissions is Luck. Not only in the US but everywhere. It maybe that you will get into all of the ivies (if you apply) or you may even get rejected at all of the top colleges. You have a fair chance at everywhere but an F looks bad on an application. Go to summer school. I promise you will probably end up with an A in that math class. Your credentials are pretty decent and I am 100% sure that you won't need to resort to a community college as others here are thinking.

Also, I wouldn't consider your legacy a real legacy. If you parent went to Princeton, then it is a legacy. Even siblings don't count as legacies. Your mother's cousin is far off the list. Europeans aren't really considered minority.
Don't be overconfident. Perfect students have been rejected and I believe overconfidence leads to downfall (and I personally don't like those people. Not that you care or anything).

and I seriously doubt you are gifted. probably slightly above average.

Do they have grade forgiveness at your school? Because if they do, retake Algebra II IMMEDIATELY, so there is no trace of your F on your report card. That's what covered up my friends' "D," though he got into U of FL anyways, a school that only admits 40%.

I doubt you'll get into Princeton with an F, there are tons of students appyling to Princeton with resumes, as good, if not better than yours. They'll probably choose them since they didn't fail any classes.

Dude, I hate to break it to you. Its a definite rejection. I simply find it hard to believe that an ivy would ever accept a student who failed. Good luck and make more realistic choices. (Like your state univ for example). That sat score will not make up for anything. There are plenty of people with that score who probably have infinitely better grades than you.

Do you realize that only about half of people with 2400s with straight A's get into schools like Harvard and Princeton? How is a 2200 "almost enough" to get you into Princeton? Your connection to Princeton is equivalent to nothing.

Seriously, sorry for being harsh, but you have to face the reality. Don't be surprised when your early application gets flat out REJECTED.

Arti, in the end you'll learn not to reply to threads where the poster clearly isn't looking for honesty. There are posters who want and need the advice of those who still cling to the notion that top colleges take a holistic approach and look at the "whole person." Scores don't matter and a low GPA/SAT/no ECs can be overlooked if you write great essays.

He can cling onto whatever false hope he wants, but there is no way in hell that someone who actually managed to fail a highschool class is intelligent and/or driven enough to even be considering, and even guarantee admission, to Princeton. That's not to say he's destined to be a garbage man either, but come on now. The people that are going to these super high end schools are bright enough to be lazy and NOT FAIL HIGHSCHOOL ALGEBRA. Good job with the 2200 though, that'll put you about middle of the road SAT wise. Too bad no one else will have an "F" next to ALGEBRA.

Aim a little lower or at least convince yourself that your chances are slim.

edit; and by slim I mean NONE

I just wat to get this straight, are you saying Croatians are minority candidates? And that aunt's make you a legacy? I really must say, if there is one trait that seems to run among those getting into top schools, it's being humble. I'd have to go with those saying I just don't see your getting in, no matter what spiritual feeling you have. Are you sure it's not just your head swelling?

How is Croatian "minority"? Croat=white.

I am flabbergasted by such harsh comments on the poor guy.
He is probably borderline retarded. I honestly think he attended Gifted Program for the Challenged. Just leave these people alone please.

You guys are harsh, he could so get into Princeton...if he learned to fly.

LOL this thread is HILARIOUS!

Arubato: "Lol. Funny man. It is true you have an alumni relationship, but that doesn't get you far. To be honest, your scores are mediocre at best. 780 is not "stellar".
my friend, 2200 isn't a "mediocre" score. I am sick of you elitist b a s t a r d s who think 2200 is a low score. fine, he might not get into Princeton, actually, with that attitude, he probably won't get into a lot of places. Arubato, you need to reevaluate your posts, and ****, maybe you need to look up "dignity" in the dictionary for me.

780 CR is a damn good score. enough said.

princton, maybe not. enough said.

you don't need a top 25 school, trust me.

FIRST of all [OP], you need to learn "humility"

Actually, there was a lacrosse player at my school that was admitted to Princeton two years ago that failed THREE classes and was rockin a 3.0 uw GPA. He also scored a 1380 on the SATs. And the funny thing is, he didnt go. He went to UVA on a full ride.
