I'm finishing up my common app and just realized I completely neglected to find out what my class rank is. Problem is, we're on break now so I can't just talk to my counselor. I emailed her but, as I suspected, she hasn't replied. Also, I looked at a copy of my transcript and even my last semester report card, and the rank isn't on either one. My first deadline for common app is the day after we get back from break. What should I do?

Try putting not available and send the information to colleges as soon as it is available.

Just to let you know, my S left it blank (and his school does rank) on the common app. He has already been accepted to 3 schools. :)

Um, I think leaving it blank isn’t the best idea LOL… But commonapp has the approximate percentages right? Put that down first, and once you can contact your counselor, update the information.
Good luck :)

I disagree. Asking for a student’s rank is asking for a specific statistic, as in I am #X out of X students. To guess or make up a number would be disingenuous. Honestly, I doubt they put much emphasis on the students’ self-reporting on such information. Schools send them official high school transcripts for this reason.

I think you’re fine without it. If your school ranks, your transcript will have the ranking and that’s what the colleges are going to go by anyway.
