So the deadlines for two colleges are May 1st. One is a 7 yr md program, the other an ivy (not Cornell lol). i haven't received exceptional aid from the ivy but have applied to a scholarship and have been selected as a semifinalist. this means i'll find out in june if i won it or not. If i do end up winning it, it would pay for most of the expenses. The 7 yr md program is great ofcourse (they're giving me a full ride) but I don't know if I want to committ to medicine. So my question is that is it okay if i say yes to both, but repeal my decision after I receive my decision for the scholarship? What's the worst that can happen if i do so, i'd be charged a fee?

The worst that could happen is your acceptance to both is WITHDRAWN. You need to call and just ask one for an extension until you hear about the scholarship. Even if it is an outside scholarship, call the ivy and explain. But if you deposit to two you risk loosing both.

Ordinarily you are not supposed to commit to 2 schools. It is a violation of the agreement to matriculate and could be grounds for recission. I’d be careful.

So as a doctor, would you want your patients making appointments with you and some other doctor and canceling on you at the last minute?

Definitely ask for a time extension from the Ivy until June 30 AND GET IT IN WRITING. It’s a perfectly reasonable request, since they haven’t told you yet what it would actually cost you to attend there.

On this year’s common application, there was an agreement that you agreed to when you submitted that you would only commit to ONE college when the time came. This is the first year this has been on the Common Ap.

You risk losing your admissions to both schools AND your financial aid as well.

Ask for extensions from both schools. If they say no…you’ll have to just pick one.

what ivy did you get into with a 1290 sat? just wondering. and i think i remember from the UR forum are you considering that too

^ yea but i’m considering Brown and another 7 yr md program. and thanks for the responses. oh and it was a 1290/1600. On the low side indeed, but just shows that not everything is based on your SAT scores.

^^^
I’m confused. WHICH Ivy did you get onto?

he’s considering brown apparently.

1290/1600?

Oh my…what kind of transcript did you have o.O

Dream2B–

So a 7 yr med program has accepted you, but you don’t know for sure if you want to be a dr? How is this school in other ways? If you went there and dropped out of the 7 yr med program, wd you still be fine with the other majors and so on?

Then go there.

Brown only gives need based aid, and you wd have heard from them on it by now – so that scholarship must be an outside one. If you wd rather go to Brown, call them and say you are waiting to hear abt this scholarship, and that it determines your ability to attend. They will probably say Fine, let us know asap. If they don’t, at least you know where you stand.

wow 1290…damn

Just don’t let either college find out, because if they do they will tell each other and could rescind both acceptances. Do you have a game plan to make sure that neither of them find out?

so i’ve decided i’ll tell brown the story of my scholarship situation. if they agree i’ll proceed if they don’t…well then i guess it’ll just be a tough decision.
and to kaloo: i don’t understand why this is too surprising. i admit my sat scores haven’t been amazing, but yes my gpa, essays and ECs have played out well for brown.

Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not trying to dramatize your SAT score. But knowing the ivies, it got me wondering what kind of extreme transcript you had that got those solemn admission officers over there to act like a human being for once…

I’m having troubles myself puling off a magical SAT score, so I apologize if I came off rude.
