<p>I just realized now that one of my examples used wrong information. How bad is this?</p>
<p>^ One of my friends (Class of 2010, just graduated from HS) was freaking out because she used an incorrect name in her SAT essay. She ended up with a 2340 total, with an 800 W (I think). You’ll be fine.</p>
<p>I’ve always been taught that the essays are graded based on how well you can connect your examples to the prompt. Even if it’s not completely accurate, I don’t think it should hurt you THAT much unless it was a very important detail that you got wrong. I could be completely wrong though.</p>
<p>They aren’t tesing you for facts, but your ability to write an essay. You’ll be fine.</p>
<p>What was the mistake? If the mistake were fixed, would your argument still be sound? If so, I would not worry.</p>

<p>Uh…no. Well, kind of. I don’t know. 
It was just one sentence though, and then the rest of my paragraph talked about the situation in general, not the two people my example was about. If that makes any sense.</p>
<p>OK. Was it important to your argument, or was it just background information? The point of the essay is not to state facts but to show your reasoning skills. You should be able to use your judgment from there.</p>

<p>I’m not sure. It was an example of two people who I thought were in different political parties, but it turns out they’re in the same one. It was just the first sentence or two of one paragraph. Then I talked about being in separate political parties in general for the rest of the paragraph. (Bad example, I know)</p>

<p>Hmm. I don’t know. If I was a reader I wouldn’t penalize you, because the argument is still there. You simply cited the wrong pair of politicians.</p>

<p>Edit: BUT WAIT! But what if the graders don’t even realize my mistake? <em>hopeful</em> Only one of the people I wrote about is prominent, and it’s obvious what party he belongs to, but the other person isn’t well-known.</p>
<p>My friend got an 11 on her SAT essay & she referred to President Wilson as President McKinley. LOL. I couldn’t believe it. But she had another amazing example…she had the technology prompt from May & she talked about the Zimmerman Telegram.</p>
