I am very interested in applying to Olin, but the only problem is that there is probably no possible way I can go to Candidates weekend because of very important Mock Trial competitions that I cannot miss? Is it even possible to be accepted to Olin without going to Candidates weekend? I am scheduled for a visit soon, so would it be possible to be interviewed then?

The Candidates Weekends (note that there are 2 weekends, not 1) are a very important part of the admission process and cannot simply be replicated by an interview. In fact, many candidates have already had an interview prior to applying to Olin (but definitely not required).

Anyways, in the history of Olin, I believe there have been two students offered admission to Olin who did not attend a Candidates Weekend. Both students accepted. So yes it is possible to get in without going to a CWE, but very very unlikely.

So for this coming year, the CWE are Feb 23-24 for the 1st weekend, and March 2-3 for the 2nd weekend. You don't go to both. You are generally assigned a weekend, but you can notify the Office of Admission and let them know you need to switch. Hopefully you do not need to miss both weekends.

Hope this helps.

Candidates Weekend is much more than an interview. . . you really couldn't make a fully informed decision about attending Olin w/o participating, IMHO, based on my daughter's experience there, and mine as a parent volunteer there.

And, it's the beginning of realizing that you cannot schedule everything, you do have to make some very difficult choices.

I missed my final state swim meet to go to Candidates Weekend - it was very saddening to do, (the other weekend was sectionals... which I was able to make and swim at). but the risk paid off and was well worth it.

There are times in life where you are given great opportunities and you will have to make sacrifices to get them. Olin College Candidates Weekend, if this is where you want to go, will be one of those opportunities, that sometimes you'll just have to give something up in order to do.

(that said, they are often very good about making sure the weekend works, and if not switching you to the other weekend).
