I swear, this college decision process is taking a toll on my heart.

I just received an invitation to the Honors Program at UW today, and I am soo excited. I know full well how excellent the program is, and I have no doubts that I will really benefit from it. Couple that with the FRAP program and I would appear to be blind for not choosing to attend UW.

However, before I received this letter, I was 99.999% sure that I would be going to Wellesley. In fact, I'm going to Boston next week for their Spring Open Campus. But because of this Honors invite, I'm not so sure anymore. For one, I never thought that I would get in to Wellesley, and two, I put a lot of effort into that Honors essay, so I really did want it. There are other reasons that complicated my problem, but essesntialy, I have no clue what I should do.

I'm really sorry if I comes off as some annoying kid whining about having to choose between one great option and another equally great option. Heck, I'm even asking myself why I am complaining. But in all honesty, I'm really confused about what I should do. The people on this forum, parents and students alike, are very insightful so I would love to hear your advice or opinion. You guys are great and I really value what your input.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I will definitely look forward to any comments you might have.

Wow! Congrats on getting into the honors program! UW's honors program is pretty exclusive! That being said, getting into Wellesley is a total wow, too! You must be THRILLED with your acceptances!

I think your decision really depends on which school you feel more comfortable at though. Why don't you make a list about all of things the pros and cons of both schools after your trip next week? I'm sure after you make a list on paper and gather your thoughts about both schools, the decision will be much clearer!

Here's one to consider: You'll never know what could have been if you stayed here and gone to UW- had you gone to Wellseley. On the other hand, if you end up not liking it over there on the east coast, you can always come back to UW (transfer pretty easy if you have decent grade).

Thanks dreamkissed and dopke for your responses. You guys are always there to lend out advice.. I really appreciate it!

dreamkissed, I will definitely do a pro/con list when I come back from Wellesley. I might have to wait until after Greek Weekend because I'm considering joining a sorority and I figure that this experience will definitely factor into my decision about attending UW. However, even with the pro/con list, I have a feeling that this is not going to be an easy decision...

Dopke, you mentioned a good point about transferring. Although I really hope that it wouldn't have to come down to that, it's always nice to have options. Do you, or anyone, know how many transfers UW accepts? For example, I heard that they weren't accepting any transfers this year, but that might be just for community colleges.

Thanks again guys for your comments and kind words!

i would count the transfer option out because uw RARELY lets pple transfer from a univ to their univ. They have a contract with the state that 30% of incoming students have to come from comm. colleges but there are no contracts for a transfer from a univ. Advisers have told me that it's very competative and only under certain circumstances do they let u transfer from a univ to uw.

i think UW would be crazy not to let a Wellesley girl transfer :) Same with any other school like that, or an Ivy League. Personally, I say go for Wellesley, because its such an amazing school, and I'd give anything to go there (I would have applied if I had higher grades)...Im considering it for grad school. You'll never know what your missing unless you give it a try, and like I said, you can always transfer. You're a very lucky girl...take this opportunity and shine. You won't regret it...the world is your oyster :) Good luck and congrats!

I'm not saying they wont let her but they dont like pple transferrin from other univ...u might want to talk to a uw adviser about that so they give you more info on what kind of pple they let transfer from another univ. But as you said...I would try to make the first choice the right choice...I personally dont think uw honors is that great since ur only taking one class that is actually "honors material" a quarter (I heard). But considering u live in WA i would stay because it's hard enough to go to a univ but when you add moving to that and being unfamiliar with the place it might get pretty stressful. Either way...if u work hard in either college you will end up having a good job and living a good life =)

Guys, thank you so much for your responses! You all are awesome.

iwantuw88: Your message was so nice...thank you so much for that. I was shocked when I found out about Wellesley, because, well you know, it's Wellesley. I know that I can't go wrong with a Wellesley education, but I just hope that it "fits." I'm going next week for their Spring Open Campus (I might have mentioned this already), so I'm very nervous. What if it's not all that I imagined it would be? What if the all-girls thing just doesn't click. Yikes.

Also, I might be completely wrong, but I think I remember you posting about how your mom went to Wellesley. Is that true? I'm going to an alumnae reception this weekend, hosted by the Washington Wellesley Club or something, so wouldn't it be crazy if your mom was there too? Anyways, thank you again for your encouragement. Oh, and I am SOO happy for you about UW!!

seven: Thank you for showcasing the other side of the transfer issue. I definitely would like to know this information before I decide, even though I hope to never use it. About UW Honors, I've heard the same thing you have, and I believe I was mistaken about thinking that you only get one class of actual "honors material." I did some research a couple of months ago, and to my understanding, honors classes replaces all of your university required classes. I could be completely wrong, so if anybody has any info on this please let me know.

I'm so indecisive about going to school in Washington. Like, some days, I am totally ready to get out of here. But then I think about my friends and family, and I just get really, well, sad. I'm a big family oriented type of girl and going to a new school in a new state is definitely scary, but it is also very exciting. But you are definitely true about how hard work will pay off no matter where I go to school. :-)

Best of luck with your decision rovee :)
Yeah, my Mom did go to Wellesley...who knows, maybe you will see her at the reception! Have a great time!

I’m an international applicant and I’d suggest you go for UDub. The prestige it brings along with its name, the opportunities in seattle with top MNCs located there and its growth trajectory, UDub is considered a great school all around the world and if you ever decide to work abroad, UDub willl be the right choice.
