What is 6th college life like?

Hey guys,
I am an incoming 6th freshman, I am just uber curious about what life is like at 6th dorms and what the community is like...

otherwise, how can I fit in?

I have a couple questions to you veteran 6th college students:

I am bringing a desktop computer to school, will it be safe in the dorms? Can you lock the doors and what not?

Will I most likely be in a triple?

What do you guys do for fun at camp snoopy?

Hey! I’m an incoming freshman at Sixth, too. ^^ I imagine it’s perfectly fine to bring a desktop; just lock your door when you’re not in. And yes, you’ll probably be in a triple–if you look at the Sixth floor plans, it’s mostly all triples.

Same here! Im excited for “camp snoopy” haha. Apparently the building layouts encourage socialization and interaction between students.

Also, how are the GE series at sixth (CAT)?

CAT–>get a good TA. get Gere for CAT 3, Doppelt for CAT 2. Avoid Carlisle for CAT 1.

Nowhere is safe, especially at the dorms. I was living in the sixth apartments last year and many people in my building got their stuff stolen, including me. But the reason my stuff was stolen was because my stupid suitemate left his window open, which allowed the burglars to enter. Be safe and make sure ALL THE WINDOWS AND DOORS are locked if you’re bringing a desktop.

I can’t answer that because I lived in a single, but from what I’ve seen when i’ve been at the dorms, they are crowded and if you’re the type of person who prefers his own space, then you’ll have to learn to study with noise.

I love camp snoopy because of the canyon by the apartments, it’s a great sight to see. I also love the trees, forests, the quad, the rabbits, and the fun people!

^
thanks for your input

i guess ill have to get some form of security for my computer.

is a laptop NEEDED? I mean are handwritten notes during class just as good?

^I think that depends on the person… Some people get too distracted with laptops and go on facebook instead of taking notes. Others take really ****ty handwritten notes that they can’t even read later to study. It’s important to see what works best for you after class starts.

its funny to me that you could have the intelligence to get into ucsd, but still be a kleptomaniac

Hah. Being intelligent doesnt necessarily insure you from being bored during lectures. I’m sure everyone’s had their share of falling asleep during class/doodling in notebooks. I know I have (I think I produced my most amount of artwork during Government class. Didnt stop me from getting an A anyway :P). Now it’s just… facebook instead.

I think you should get a laptop… just because it’s more portable and you’ll be able to take your laptop to classes for presentations and if you’re bored… ye sit’ll be safe in the dorms.

Will I most likely be in a triple?
if you signed up for housing when you got your little postcard in like end of march, you will get a double. if not, then triple.

What do you guys do for fun at camp snoopy?
camp snoopy is AMAZING! there’s so much greeeeeens and grassy areas and the camp style dorms are small enough for the entire suite to be tight-knit and big enough for the entire building to know each other & be hella tight. i love sixth college because it’s the smallest college and therefore you really get to know most of the people (or know their faces) and it makes you feel comfortable & a little better when you see familiar faces in class.

we sometimes sunbathed in the grass on sunny days, played frisbee, had pizookie nights at BJ’s, etc. my friends and i really took advantage of the transportation available (public bus for fun out of school, school shuttle to eat at other dining halls cuz foodworx gets tiring after a while)
