what is a 33 ACT equivalent to on the SAT?

Every website gives a different answer, but I really gotta know. I got a 1450 SAT, and I think the 33 is better, but I wanna know by how much. 40 points? 60 points?

Go to college board’s website. They have a concordance table. Off the top of my head, 1450 is probably about the same as 32, so yes, the 33 is better, but it does depend on individual section scores too. A 36 in English and 30 in Reading isn’t as impressive as the other way around to some colleges. As for the point spread, it’s hard to say. Not sure why that matters, tbh.

@Lindagaf - I’ve always heard that English and math were more important than reading and science. But in today’s competitive environment, best to have good scores all around! @oakland818 - but it is worth looking at the subscores - because you don’t want dips. Like sub-scores of 32, 32, 34, 34, would be viewed better than a 27, 34, 34, 35- even though the composite is the same.

The following is from a prep scholar blog
An independent (non-ACT-funded) study done in 2011 by Bettinger et al found that ACT English and Math scores do a good job of predicting how well a student will do in college, while ACT Reading and Science scores don’t seem to have any relationship to college academic performance. So I could see how a college would care more about ACT English scores than about Reading scores.

Here’s probably the best answer to your question. What college do you want to go to? Do a google search for the common data set to that college. That college will list the ‘average’ sat and act of the students that were accepted. You are right that each school thinks of the act equivalent to some different SAT value, than another. Therefore, look at the facts and just go with the common data set for the particular school that you are looking into going. That’s the best way to measure the equivalence of the SAT and ACT score.

@wisteria100 , I have definitely read articles that support what you say, but my impression is that some colleges generally care more about reading, and I have wondered why, given the evidence. I was sure I read that here on CC somewhere, lol.

Yes 33 is better, I believe by around 50 points, according to the tables I saw. Good job! :smiley:

@wisteria100 I got
Reading-32
English-34
Math-33
Science-32
Do those look fairly balanced?
