So my score on the SAT was a 2050 which I wasn’t happy with, but they stopped offering the old SAT so I decided to try the ACT. Scores came out this morning and I got a 28. (32 English, 27 Math, 29 Science, and 25 Reading). I’m very surprised by my reading score because reading was my best subject when prepping so that was v weird to me. Also, I didn’t have a tutor, I just prepped myself for about 3 weeks. I was aiming for at least a 32 (since a 2050 apparently is about a 31). Do you think this is a realistic score for retaking in September?
Based on my DD’s scores, a 30-32 is very realistic. Good luck!
It’s very possible to hit 30-32 once you figure out Reading and Science (this is Reading with charts, graphs and tables). It sounds more like a comfort/familiarity issue than ability or knowledge. Do practice section tests over the summer (don’t wait until 3 weeks before the exam). Start with untimed for a couple of weeks. Then do timed tests.
My daughter went from 27 to 31 with lower subscores in earlier tries. No tutoring, just practice section tests once or twice a week over three months.
Do practice tests regularly so you need not depend on luck.
I had a 2050 (highest single, superscored it was a 2100) and I managed to get a 34 ACT with little to no prep. So, anything is possible. Do not, however, take this to mean you can go into the ACT with no prep and do what I did, I still don’t know how I did it.
Definitely realistic. I seriously recommend really prepping this summer; my score went up 4 pts just by doing numerous practice tests and reviewing what I did wrong. You can do it! (I ended with a 33)
Based on the online conversion tables i believe a 2050 corresponds to around a 31, so 30-32 is realistic and 28 is a bit low. You may want to try retaking the ACT. I’ve found that the ACT is easier to study for and thus you may do better your second time 'round.
I believe that it is. Take studying seriously over the summer and do practice tests. I started out low as well, probably around a 30ish, and I ended up with a 34. Good luck!
It’s very possible. I improved 4 points simply by getting a better nights sleep :P. Good luck!
You can definitwly improve. I also feel like a lot of it depends on which sitting you’re taking. I got a 32 on the september 2015 and a 34 on the April 2016 test. All my subsections improved but I was surprised most by my reading and english scores, on which i got a 36 and 34 respectively. I am a STEM person and I studied for the science and math sectiona but not the reading and english, so I was surprised. I think that maybe on some tests it’s easier to score higher bc I have no clue how I got a 36 on reading but it’s definitely worth it to take the test again.
30-32 probably if you get your reading score up which I’m sure you can. The reading this times round seemed to bee harder than usual – my sister who has taken it three times now got 32-35 on reading the first two times and a 29 after taking it this june. Good luck!
Realistic. I slept 5 hrs (normal) the first time and 8 hrs the second and I went up 3 points. It also helped that that the second time was at a more familiar testing location, with a watch, a super basic prep class, and some practice problems for the 2 sections that I was struggling with. Just kinda get used to the test and you can do it!
