I’m a junior and just curious what they ask. Do the prompts change every year?

I don't know about this year, but previously there have been 5 or 6 different prompts to choose between. Last year each prompt was a quote, to which you could respond. One was about art, one about science, one was related to civic engagement and responsibility, and so forth. It gives students an opportunity to write on a subject that holds special interest for them. And I suppose it gives the admissions officers a little relief from reading a ton of essays responding to the same question. ;)

Allow extra time to do them well. They are intellectual brain-breakers that require thought and several drafts. They also allow you a chance to show some intellectual style and personality as well. Let the readers get to know you through your thoughts. Personalize a bit.

Do not rush these or wait them to last minute. Treat these questions with care and respect.

I've corresponded with applicants who found these more challenging than anything else on their desk pile.

You can do it; you just need to allow plenty of time and not expect to dash them off.
