What is better? Bentley University or the Farmer School of Business (MiamiU Ohio)

Dear All,

I have received Direct Admission into the Farmer School of Business. I am still waiting for a reply from Bentley University. I would like to know what people here would pick if they had to go to one of these universities.

I am an international student and therefore, tuition is not really a concern that I have.

Also, I have gotten into Indiana University but have not gotten Direct Admission into the Kelley School of Business. In such a scenario, would it be wise to even go to Indiana University?

I have applied to some other schools but I believe that my chances are low there.

Thus, I wish to know what you all feel about the Farmer School of Business versus Bentley University. Which one do you think is better? Which majors are better at Farmer and which ones are better at Bentley.

Thanks for the help!

In full disclosure - I am the father of Farmer student who is very happy there and has received numerous internship offers, so I do have a favorable opinion of Miami. My son was also admitted to Indiana, but chose Miami since it is a midsized as opposed to a very large university.

The accounting program at Miami (both undergraduate and graduate) is especially well regarded (in top 25 of the CCH Wolters Kluwer Public Accounting Report) and its graduates are highly sought after by all of the Big 4 firms, numerous large banks and Fortune 500 corporations. While many of the graduates find work in the 4 C’s - Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Columbus, each year there are students who wind up on either coast.

Indiana (Kelley) is also a great program - with an extremely good reputation. Several of my son’s friends are at Kelley and love it. The big concern is not being a direct admit. The Indiana thread is full of stories of kids being denied admission to Kelly with one “B” freshman year. In fact, my son has told me that each year Farmer receives many of these perfectly acceptable “Kelley non-direct admits” as transfer students. I definitely wouldn’t risk not getting into Kelley if you have a Farmer direct admission.

Bentley has been rising in the rankings, but in my opinion is much more of a regional school. (I have been a CPA and banker in Chicago for 30 years and only heard of Bentley a year ago when it made a big leap in the Business Week rankings.) Kelley is the best known nationally of the three with Farmer a little less so.

Good luck!
