I don't know how much finances go into selecting for the scholarships but a friend I know just got the Dean's Scholarship for 4500/yr for 2 years. His household income is >200k. What differentiates the two? Does one have more prestige?

Dean’s is a two year award, Presidential is a four year award.

It’s not really a matter of prestige, per se. Merit money is merit money. There is a lower threshold for the highest award for a Dean’s (4,500) than a Presidential (12,000 for OOS), but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s “less.” For example, a Dean’s at 4,500 for 2 years is actually a bigger award than a Presidential at 2000 for 4 years. So, it’s just the way the money is distributed.
