I've seen posts about Clemson's fraternities before but what is nightlife like besides that? I know many people over 21 go to the bars but besides that, are there any on campus parties that aren't frat parties? I mean as a guy would i really be allowed in to many frat parties? I'm not that interested in joining a frat (though i'll keep an open mind when its time to rush) but i still want to go to parties. They don't have to be insane ragers but what is it like?

Other than downtown, most happen at the near by apartments.

If you want nightlife, a large state school, and South Carolina… USC is definitely the place to be. :)

But my friends who go to Clemson say that there’s really not much to do there. The girls I know go to a lot of frat parties and the ones who aren’t huge partiers ended up transferring. I’m sure there are non-frat parties, but Clemson is really in the middle of nowhere so your options are pretty limited compared to a lot of other schools in that regard.

I’m interested too and agree with most of your post, OP. So far this year, as a freshman guy, I’ve only heard stuff about frat parties. Then again, I’m not a partying type of guy (never went to any in high school) but would like to go to one occasionally…

if you want to go to parties where girls enjoy exposing themselves, go to South Carolina (was featured on Tosh.O…)

but there are parties at Clemson too, this is a large state school, not a small liberal arts college. It’s there if you want it, and plenty to do if it’s not your thing.

Nothing is worth living in Columbia.

Except not having to live in Clemson.

Carolina has some crazy parties that aren’t just fraternity specific. There was the previously mentioned Woodlands party a couple of weeks ago that did include two girls deciding to go topless while chicken fighting… and that was at an off-campus apartment complex.

Michael Phelps famously got high here at a house party while visiting a friend.

Heck, the Baptist group on campus had a rave that got shut down by the police last year.

If you’re considering Clemson, then be smart and get cocky. Carolina is the way to go. ;)

In all seriousness though, if you’re considering Clemson as a school, you should definitely check out Carolina. They’re two very different campuses, but somewhat similar schools. I know a lot of people who came from Clemson families, but saw that Carolina was better for them personally or kids who came from Carolina families, but saw that Clemson was better for them.

Is the OP even considering USC? Really the “Nightlife” should not be the deciding factor. You can party or not party at either school. Clemson is almost always regarded as being a better school academically. In engineering its not even close. My favorite things about Clemson are the nearby lakes and mountains, but I enjoy the outdoors. Clemson also felt like a much tighter community. Its a college town. The town is there because of the school. I was unbiased when I chose between the two, but now its required I hate on USC. I would not want to live in either place after I graduate.

I won’t argue about the academics because its obvious according to most national publications that Clemson is THE University in South Carolina (haha) but yep nightlife should not be the deciding factor in a college decision.

But overall, both schools are totally different schools. You need to do some research, visit both schools and make your own informed decision (not based on the opinions of Clemson and South Carolina fans/students haha).
