what is considered a full load at UIUC and question on hours til graduation

and how many hours for an avg class?

how many course hours are possible , taking a full load, in a 4 yr span at UIUC?

also, if one satisfies the degree requirements of a given major/degree, does that mean you can graduate, or do you also have to satisfy something more than what is specified in teh degree requirements?

for example, compE says it has 128 hours composed in a mix of required and elective courses (see below); are there then MORE courses one needs to satisfy at either the engineering college level or at the university level in order to graduate?

Prospective Students: Undergraduate Curriculum in CE Fall 2006 and Later - ECE ILLINOIS | University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

classes are worth 3 hours on average. otherwise, they range anywhere from 1-5 credits.

18 hours/semester is the maximum (need permission to go over, 15 hours is average), so 144 hours over 8 semesters. can be more due to transfer credits, tested credits, overloading, or summer school.

degree requirements are usually comprised of:
-major’s core classes
-major’s elective classes
-general education

and then fill up the rest of your hours with classes to reach the university residency/course hours required/upper level course requirement. the ECE webpage pretty much covers it all.

thanks. so ECE/compE indicates 128 hrs to get a compE degree. So t hat would leave about 144 - 128 = 16 hours , or about 5 more classes to take that is outside the degree dictates.

That does not sound like enough for a minor concentration above the primary compE degree.

I was asking about this to determine about how much extra bandwidth/time would be available to take classes that are not within the dictates of the degree.

Depends what minor. For psychology or math, 5 classes sounds enough. Why worry about a minor though, those things don’t matter.

it is absolutely possible to complete a minor or two. the required core for ECE is only 75 credits and many of them will also fulfill gen ed requirements. add any AP classes on top of that and you have plenty of flexibility with your schedule to take fun electives to reach the 128 hour requirement.
