What is considered a good SAT II score

I will be applying RD to CAS and just got my scores back today. 720 BioE and 730 Math2. I’ve read many different and sometimes conflicting views regarding the importance of these scores. Some say 700s is alright, but 750+ is ideal (obviously). But I’ve also seen that taking the tests and not bombing it is enough. I know I can improve since I did minimum prep and was only half-way through my biology course at the time of the test.
Thoughts? Thanks.

It only really becomes a factor if you’re neck and neck with another candidate. It provides another piece of info for them to evaluate you. I think you’re probably fine. Assuming your other test scores, GPA, and acedemic rigor are top notch, SAT II in the 700s is fine. Higher is always better but you’ve done enough in my opinion. Life is too short to keep retaking tests.

Life may be short but if you know you can do better, then it wouldn’t hurt to retake. Your scores are good, however, and need to be taken in the context of your entire application.

My SAT IIs were all in the 600s (even after retaking them) and I still got into CAS. Obviously that is extremely anecdotal, but it leads me to believe that they aren’t a deal breaker.

@cotopaxi @Renomamma @Ranza123 Thanks for all your feedback, I really appreciate it! I will probably retake them because there is room for improvement and it might sound weird but I enjoy trying to outdo myself on tests. I won’t stress about it though!

What is a good score depends on which exam. Based on 2015 distribution (you can google it), your BioE score would be in the 78%. That is a strong score, realizing that the pool is only people taking the SAT II exam – which are all very strong student. The Math 2 score, however, is in the 55%. Not bad, but not as strong even though it is a higher raw score. There are so many strong math students that nearly 20% get an 800, throwing off the percentages.

I would consider retaking the Math 2 exam to try and improve a bit, especially if your intended major is math/science related. But, if you don’t improve, I would confidently submit and move along.

Just one person’s opinion.
