What is considered to be a 4.0?

I have looked around, and every website tells me something different. I asked my school for my UW gpa, and they only give out averages (mine is 96). Is this considered a 4.0? Where can I find an accurate conversion table?

Most likely, it depends on how your school figures things. On a 4.0 scale, A=4, 3=B, 2=C, etc. So, if you get letter grades, you should be able to figure it out yourself. If you don't, then it gets more complicated. One could assume that a perfect "100" equates to a perfect "4.0". In that case your GPA is 0.96 x 4.0 = 3.84. However, if you get base-100 grades on a class-by-class basis, then I would consider 90-100 to be a 4.0, 80-89 to be a 3.0.....and so on....and you could do the computation that way.

Of course, this is all un-weighted. On top on this, you could compute your weighted average for honors or AP classes...but that adds even more confusion because some schools had 0.5 point while others add 1.0 point (on a 4-point scale) for such classes.

In the end...the colleges you apply to will most likely apply there own method when computing your "GPA".
