What is considered to be a good ACT writing score?

I just got back my the score for my first ACT (I'm a junior), and I got a 33. I got a 36 on English, a 33 on Math, a 33 on Reading, and a 31 on Math. I got a 9 on Writing. Is the 9 considered a bad score? Should I take the test again to try and improve my writing score?

A 9 is within top 5% of all test takers according to ACT site so its pretty good. 10+ is top 1%.

I think a 9 must be pretty good because its the 95th percentile. I got a 9 on the December test too, and I hadn’t prepped for the essay at all other than looking at the “rubric” they use to grade it. I know this sounds braggy, but I’m the top student in my AP Lang class and always get the top score for the class on prompts, so I think me and you are still good with our 9s:)

Oh and btw I wouldn’t bother retaking unless you’re actually looking to improve your 33 because I think it’s the common consensus that most colleges don’t care about your writing score (as long as it isn’t completely atrocious) because they can judge your writing based on your admissions essays.

I’m probably going to take it again in February, since I’m aiming for a 34. Thanks for the responses, I was a little worried!
