I will be attending an overnight orientation at St. John’s university, and I’m really excited! In general, what are overnight orientations like? My cousin who went to Syracuse, told me that it’s a night where everybody gets drunk and has a fun time. Is this true? I’m a very social person, so I’m very eager to make new friends. What should I bring with my to orientation? Any advice? Thanks!
Did you not receive any information on orientation from your college? At least on the first day when you sign in they will give you a packet with the schedule of events for the orientation. There may be some math or foreign language placement testing and a meeting with your adviser to register for your first semester classes. You will probably get a chance to tour around the campus to get familiar with where everything is located so that your transition to college is smooth. Everyone attending will be new so you will get to meet the incoming students and perhaps ones in your major. There will also be some fun activities planned but be careful about underage drinking.
Every school handles orientation differently so that’s kind of hard to answer. Just a warning: don’t jeopardize your standing as a student before you even begin with a bad decision.
My freshman orientation was like 4 days (my school has since made it just an overnight thing) and it was basically just a crapload of info sessions, ice breakers, semi-awkward introductions, and random games and activities.
And it was fantastic. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I did mine.
My son’s freshman orientation was two days, First day with parents. Was an opportunity to know your peers, register for Classes, choose classes in honors College, know about the College rules, health services, etc.
Fortunately My son’s College is a conmute school the orientation is just on day. He choose this College because he want live at home and I’m very happy with his election.
I think if you go to College is to study, make good friends, and learn skills for your life, not to drink.
My son is a little shy, but he make friends at first orientation day.
Good luck, be careful with drink.
